What if the NBA had an MLB-style like all star format??

one aspect of the mlb all star teams that differentiates them from other leagues is that they have a representative from every team. SO.... lets say each conference had a 15 man team with a player from every team. what would the all star team look like this year??

NOTE:remember pick all stars for this year's accomplishments only and keep in mind that all stars are selected in february so only consider till then.

EAST
CLE-Lebron (no brainer)
DET-Chauncey (proly his best statistical year)
CHI-Gordon (no one was good but BG actually had a very nice run during the middle of the season so id say him by default)
MIL-Bogut (I actually thought he played a very strong first half of the season)
IND-Granger (no doubt he was red hot early in the season)
ATL-JSmoove (tough call but JJ actually had a down season especially his FG% and Smith had some monster games early on many near 5x5's)
WAS-Caron (unbelieveable year)
MIA-Wade (another pick by default but eh he did put up some good assists, points, and steals)
ORL-Dwight (sorry Hedo but no doubt)
CHA-JRich (took a lil while to adjust but he was the best bobcat this year)
BOS-KG (responsible for turn around plus he had great stats early on)
TOR-Bosh (not his best year but Calderon arrived too late)
PHI- Iggy (a tough pick cause u could go with miller instead)
NY-Crawford (tempted to go with Lee cause only he deserves it but crawful did put up good stats...)
NJ-Jefferson (RJ was an absolute monser for the first half, 25 ppg)

WEST
LAL-Kobe (cant deny the MVP)
LAC-Kaman (breakout season and some sickening stats)
GSW-Baron (MVP candidate early on)
SAC- Kevin Martin (slowed down by injury but his early season stats are amazing)
PHX-Matrix (this may be my most controversial pick but Marion was puttin up astronomical stats, Nash was not playin up to par of year's past and Amare exploded in the second half so i think its deserving for Marion)
DAL-Josh Howard (if im not mistaken Dirk started off very slow this season plus early on Howard was puttin up the best numbers of his career)
HOU-Yao (TMac was too injury ridden early on)
SAS-Manu (MVP candidate early on)
NOH-CP3 (no brainer)
MEM-Gay (lone bright spot in dreadful season)
UTA-Boozer (IMO Deron was better in the 2nd half of the season)
DEN-AI (arguably his best statistical year)
POR-Roy (carried his team to a great run)
SEA-Durant (who else is there?)
MIN-Al Jefferson (look above)

Might be a nice idea to do this with one caveat. The fans can vote two starters from the same team; otherwise, the coaches picks must include one player from each team not represented by the fan vote.

It's a great idea, and I guarantee it would bring even more attention to the game. When I first read this topic, I thought you were going to talk about the MLB using the all-star game as the deciding factor for home advantage for the World Series. At first I was against this idea, but it makes the all-star game so much more competitive and actually worthwhile to watch.

Let me take a different view. This is a horrible idea.

If the rosters were expanded to 15, the current system would allow one player from each team to make the All Star Team just like you said -- IF THEY WERE WORTHY. All this requirement does is create an unnecessary rule that will force out more worthy players simply because they play with a good player. Should Amare stay home so Bogut can be there? David Lee causes McGrady to end his string of All Star games?

The NBA is already getting kind of a black eye from allowing unworthy teams in the East to get invited to the play-offs while a team like GSW sits home with far more wins. When a team wins less games, or a player produces less stats, but still gets the prize, it flies against the competitive nature of sport.

The All Star Weekend already has enough other activities (skills contests, slam dunk contests, fresh/soph game) that I doubt any team fails to send a representative. Playing in the All Star game should be an honor reserved to players that deserve it for their play, not because they happen to play on a team with a bunch of duds.

Doesn't everyone hate the MLB system because undeserving players get in? I hear people complain about it all the time. And you want to adopt it? For a league that has a much smaller roster size?

I'd enjoy watching that. And every team gets a go.....and i think that fan voting is getting a bit ridiculous at the moment. If yao was injured a whole season he'd get voted in, and Carter gets voted in on sub par seasons all the time. Maybe this isn't totally the answer but it's still good.

More than half the players selected would opt not to play because of "injuries", the game would still be a lame show-off fest with no defense, and I still wouldn't watch it.

I think it's a bad idea. It's a problem with the MLB all-star game, because a couple of undeserving players make it in.

(Though I realize this thread is being hypothetical)

I like this idea a lot. I think it would make the all star event much better.

All star selections become less of an honor, but I think there's already too much emphasis on this aspect of all-stardom.

I also don't think it's a big deal if some very good players are left out. It would just change what it means to be an all star. This method would eliminate the idea that all stars are necessarily better than non-all stars. Instead, they would just be representatives of their teams.
