The Hornets can not win the Title...

Post#1 » by e4Nf6 » Tue May 6, 2008 8:42 pm

All this love for CP3 and the Hornets makes me sick.
Am I the only one still bitter?

I've been put in the strange position of rooting for Bruce Bowen and possibly Kobe Bryant later on, two men I would never otherwise cheer for. If Osama Bin Laden was playing them I would root for Osama.

In the Bos-Atl series I could only half-heartedly hope Atlanta wins because the Celtics might be the last line of defense!

I would almost trade a Bobcat playoff trip next year for a guarantee of The Hornets losing.

Somebody please tell me they are bitter and petty like me..... :upset:

I'm not bitter.

The only reason I might not want them to win is because would make me regret that trade-that-never-was on draft night 2005 even more than I already do.

But as for the Hornets, a team that relocated from Charlotte, winning the championship, I don't mind. I was angry when Shinn moved the team, but looking back now, especially now that I see how some "fans" in Charlotte treat the Bobcats, I know that he wasn't the problem. I would rather them win, and get to rub it in for all the people that ran the Hornets out of town.

I wanted them to do poorly right after relocation, since a lot of the NO fans were rude to the fans in Charlotte that actually did care about the Hornets, but I haven't paid much attention to them lately, and I imagine that they got that back and then some after the OKC situation. I bet they're a bit more empathetic after that situation.

So, no. I don't care if they win it. I'm not actively rooting for them, but I wouldn't mind if they won it, and in a way, a small bit of me hopes they win I guess, just to make some of the people in Charlotte look like the fools they are.

ignoring hams post....

yes, e4... i understand where you are coming from. every bone in my baskeball fan body tells me i should love an underdog team, from a small market, led by perhaps the best pg in the past 20 years, and a team made up of cast offs that are easy to root for (minus bonzi wells). the hornets are everything most anti-stern, anti big market nba fans dream of.

but, i still can't bring myself to root for them. i starting watching the game last night and i didnt really want to root for either team, so i eventually fell asleep in the 2nd quarter.

basketball, like any sport, is so much more entertaining when you have a clear favorite or clean enemy. i'm not really rooting against the hornets or hoping bad things happen to them, but i still cant root for them. i just cant.

ditto on the celtics... except i want to keep them around to keep detroit and the cavs out of the finals.

As an out of towner, I'm somewhat ambivalent regarding the Hornets. I personally want cp3 to do well, but that's because he's a Wake Forest guy. You know, root for NC teams, eat NC barbecue. I'm a native and lifelong resident. I'm entitled.

But the Hornets left Nirvanna of their own choosing. They'll run out of gas sometime. They are too new to this playoff thing. The Wall awaits. (But they are up 2-0 on the last team to win 16 playoff games in a season, so we'll see how they do going forward.)
In loving memory of Barbara Hickman Taylor 07/20/1955-11/27/2010. Rest in Peace Sweet Lady!

I have to agree with Fats. On one hand I like them and can root for them, on the other hand this is the team I followed for years as a die hard fan and then only 5 years after relocating we lose the f'n coin flip to them and now they're a championship calibur team and we would just be happy to make an 8th seed.

But the thing that makes me feel better is that I know as good as they are right now, it won't last once it comes time to pony up the cash. Shinn is one of the worst owners in all of sports and Charlotte and New Orleans (small markets) are not the type of market he can survive in. Sure he could survive in Chicago, LA, and NY because people go to those games no matter what. But believe me, he will not put 4 8m/yr + guys on the floor. David West will be the casualty of war I assume once his contract is up. I look forward to watching that pan out and them him threatening to move to OKC once they don't win as big anymore and lose money instead of break even.

If the Bobcats won a championship first before the Hornets, I would be in my glory and whatever happened after that I could care less. Now that we've got Larry Brown, who knows. Maybe we make a few moves and become the next elite team in the league soon. In a perfect world the Bobcats would beat the Hornets on a last second shot in the NBA finals to win the championship, though that'd be a nightmare for the NBA and their precious TV ratings.

What do you mean by "like"? They're very similar in rebounding, but Tyson doesn't have to take nearly as many shots and plays on a better team, so he scores less, but shoots better. Plus Emeka dramatically out-blocks and out-steals him, and turns the ball over less. So what is Chris Paul changing about this? Making Emeka shoot that high percentage on more shots?

They're not very similar in style or in body type either...

Until the Spurs are completely out, I have a hard time counting them out.

I just can't really see Charlotte fans forgiving the Hornets. It would be like Cleveland fans rooting for the Ravens, just shouldn't happen.

I don't think the Hornets could win it all, just doens't seem likely. Paul is really good though.

no way david stern lets the hornets get in the way of a lakers vs celtics or a kobe vs lebron finals. if the lakers and hornets went to a game seven you can bet your house that kobe will shoot 20+ fts.

haha... i guess if the bugs are blowing the lakers out, then all the tainted ref help in the world wont save them.

thats when stern goes to plan B (pulls the fire alarm and then claims the game must be replayed).

or maybe stern pulls a pre-emptive move and suspends paul right before game seven due to an "alleged" nut punch againts rony turiaf in final moments of game 6 (even though no footage captured the "alleged" incident). i mean, who wouldnt believe that paul could punch i man in the nuts, right?

I've been watching them again since they drafted Paul. Definitely more the last two years than the years before but I'm rooting for them. Almost to the point that if they meet the Lakers in the WCF I don't know who I'll end up pulling for. I guess I'll just have to find out when they play the first game.

TC plays much better defense, is more agressive and is actually a threat on offense to teams.
