About the most depressing thing I've read in a while. I don't know if I can handle this if it plays out this way.[/url]

haha, thats a pretty ridiculous article.

He says that since there is an ownership mess,

There is a high probability that both Smith and Childress have played their last game in a Hawks uniform.

... but gives absolutely nothing substantive about the group's financial OR legal situation.

Until one of the jackasses at ESPN, Sekou, Orlando D. Bedwetter, or another ajc guy breaks a story about the Hawks' having financial difficulties, or even the inability to resign Smith, I'm not buying it.

His thesis seems to be that since the ownership group can't agree on anything its hard to make financial decisions and therefore we will let Smith walk for nothing. It doesn't really make much sense.

yeah this idiot sounds like us. Where is the meat of the story? No facts all presumptuous dribble to incite readers. We were in negotiations with Smith last summer so was that all just cracks and giggles and we really couldn't afford a contract? Man just relax. This team has a chance to do a lot of things right. But, I doubt seriously that money or the ownership mess will even be a 1/5 of the deciding factor. But, interestingly with BK gone could this open the door for a Belkin and ASG reconciliation?
If it counts luck is worth the same as skill

These articles are so hilarious to me. It's clear the guy never watched a Hawk game until the playoffs. Josh Smith a 2-4? Chillz=Tayshaun Prince?

He's the guy from freedarko, I think he's actually a Hawks guy. He just isn't backing anything regarding financing up.

He's a Hawks guy and he thinks Josh Smith can play the 2?

FWIW, there will be an uproar with the fanbase should both Joshes walk away without any return.
The incoming GM might as well sign his resignation papers in advance.

The guy is just talking. Everything I've read says that Smith is a near lock to come back and we will make an attempt to keep Chilz as well.

yeah this article was really bad, but Chillz does remind me of Tayshaun in the way that he plays, he's a hustle guy who is skinny but athletic , but clearly Tayshaun is much much better.

So do you guys expect J. Smith to get a max or near max offer? And if he does is it a given you will match it?

Don't forget about what the Heat have been known to do, they see a team that has 2 good players at the same position then offer a contract that if matched would not allow the team to sign the other player, that allows them to acquire their real target.

As a bulls fan we will be getting the same treatment because of Dengs and Gordons contracts coming up in the same year. Where one team could offer one a huge contract knowing if we match, we will probably have to part with the other.

Everything I've heard (none of it is insider info or anything) is that they will resign him. Thats just from ESPN types that say it like "the Hawks would be stupid to not match Smith but Childress could end up costing more than they'd like to pay" or something.

I don't think he'll be getting a max offer from anyone, at least not the Heat. It depends on the draft of course but there aren't many teams with the cap room to offer the max.
