Trade Gasol...

Post#1 » by ShowtimeFan » Wed May 7, 2008 7:51 pm

not just yet, we can still win a couple of Championships with him,
but in the 2009/2010 Season.

After that season, LeBron James can opt out of his contract. Gasol's and James contracts are close enough to make the Salary Cap numbers work out.

Why would LeBron do it? He will make more (Shoe-deal) money in a big market like Los Angeles. Who could pass up a chance to be the best 1-2 punch in NBA history?

Why the Cavs do it? LeBron can threaten to Opt-Out anywhere (other than the Lakers) the Cavs try to trade him. With Gasol they could at least get a decent scoring big man. Or they could simply let LeBron walk and get noting for him as they will be some Team somewhere clearing salary Cap money to try and sign him...

Why the Lakers do it? Duh.. look at this line-up:
PG: Farmer (or ??)
SG: Kobe
SF: LeBron
PF: Odom
C : Bynum

The Lakers Dynasty will not miss a beat, Kobe would be 31/32 then and LeBron would be 25 or so... They could win 4 or 5 more Championships easily...

I know there is a bit of fantasy here, but if LeBron wanted it to happen, he could help steer the deal..

THOUGHTS?

Are you kidding me? Seriously..

We got a couple All Star's on this team now, and you want to trade them for a pipe dream? This thread can wait until 2009/2010 man, come on.

LeBrick was 2 for 18 last game, with 10 turnovers.

LeBrick had a field goal in the first 2 min of the game and one in the last 5 min of the game. Tells you about the game.

He handed the game to the C's

No, because with Bynum's extension, and Odom's, and Farmar's, and everybody else's, there will be no cap space to sign Lebron.

Moreover, Lebron has a big enough ego to not want to play under anybody's shadow. Rightfully so, as a MVP candidate - and will continue to be. He's King James, not Queen James.

Lastly, if Lebron were to leave Cleveland, he'd likely go to the Knicks or Nets. The Knicks, with New York being the biggest market, has the biggest financial potential for him, as well as the opportunity to resurrect a city that has started to campaign for him three years before he's even eligible.

The Nets are also mentioned as a possible destination, with sources citing the unique relationship between Lebron and part owner Jay-Z. There's a financial incentive to this. First of all, the plans to move the Nets to Brooklyn, out of the hell called New Jersey. Brooklyn, being in New York, has massive financial potential, including its historic connection with hip hop culture. Jay-Z plans to be Lebron's business partner and architect for Lebron to take over the NBA, like Jay-Z took over mainstream hip-hop.

In sum:

1. The Lakers will not give away the components of a perennial championship contender for the remote chance to offer Lebron a contract

2. The two teams most closely associated with Lebron as possible destinations have been the Knicks and the Nets, with both of them based in New York.

3. Lebron has sights to become the MAN, the way Jordan was the MAN, which means a global presence, a cultural icon. Being the MAN in New York City, the most important city in the world, partnered with the already incredibly powerful Jay-Z is the logical path for success, not as Kobe's sidekick in Los Angeles.

The only reason I won't completely blast this thread is because I once had a thread called "Bring Kobe off the Bench."

It's been about 6-7 months since i said that and finally, someone has overtaken my lapse in thinking.

Thank you.

PS James ain't coming here and we're not trading Gasol.
