wha t if ??

In 1976, the bucks picked the best PG in the draft a and passed on a hall of fame center. Why? because they thought kareem would stay forever. and then kareem left the following year, and the lakers gave teh Bucks a couple of guards and forwards and picks in return.

Just think if the bucks had not looked at their team roster before making that pick. they could have drafted robert Parrish instead of Quinn Bucker. if the Bucks had robert parrish, they would not have a need t o draft benson and could have drafted Marques johnson and Oti birdsong or Walter Davis instead.

you're exactly right major. one thing leads to another. one drafting or trade will trigger another.

but if you compare straight up this bucks team with chris paul not bogut - everything else remaining the same - then that could be really ugly. imagine the locker room with mo wanting court time, sessions needing to develop... not to mention the hole in the middle.

i'm not sure we'd be in much better shape. we'd be a piece away from being a playoff team, just like we are now.

Reed, I agree with your point on the what if game. Good point.

But you should have stopped at Paul Pierce. We traded Kareem in 1975. Quinn Buckner was drafted #7 overall in 1976.

Robert Parrish did go next at #8 but he was coming out of Centenary so it was the classic small school guy who flew under the radar. But yes, we damn well could have drafted Parrish.

It's so hard to sit and play the "What If" game because you can always beat your head against the wall for a laundry list of draft mistakes or passes?

What if Dr J came and played with Oscar and Kareem instead of going to the ABA?

What if we took Jason Kidd instead of G-Rob?

What if we took Grant Hill?

What if we never traded away Scott Williams and subsequently picked Josh Smith ourself?

What if we took Carlos Boozer instead of Dan Gadzuric?

What if we took David West instead of TJ Ford?

What if we took Monta Ellis instead of Ilyasova?

What if we took Tayshaun instead of Haislip?

You can beat yourself up all day.

Sometimes its fun, most of the time it's maddening.

Unlike the Cavs, for example, they aren't just one superstar and a bunch of crap. They have a superstar and a number of other very good players. They are a strong mix of talent and good role players.

I'm starting to wonder if you could compare Orlando's situation with them, if Howard keeps improving. They have made similar moves to NO to surround their star player with complementary pieces that the future may show to be very astute.

Howard - Paul
Turkoglu - West
Lewis - Peja

Just that Chandler et al. much better than Orlando's support cast. Nelson's OK, but if they were able to gain a player like Mo I think they would be a fantastic team.

Please note - I'm not saying the above players are equivelant, only suggesting similar situations.

As crazy as it sounds now, people should remember that many fans were really high on TJ Ford and the Bucks seemed pretty confident he was coming back. TJ his first year had really improved the Bucks. Plus his attitude problems hadn't surfaced. I personally had expectations of TJ returning to play the same, but with a jump shot from all the time to practice it. I saw Paul as a slightly better TJ, so I wasn't interested - but I hadn't seen much of him. I did put Paul 3rd overall after Deron and ahead of Marvin - because I liked Deron's size and thought Marvin was unimpressive.

What if it ends up N.O. vs Utah in the Western Conference Finals?

How bad do Milwaukee and ATL look for passing on Deron and Paul then?

Return to Milwaukee Bucks
