With Maggette and Marion wouldn't you rather have Kidd as the point guard?

Definitely, and it'd be far better cap-wise as well. If the Kidd-Maggette-Marion-Dirk-Damp group works and wins, great...you can work on re-signing some of those guys and still vying for a championship. If it doesn't, you can let all three walk and clear about $38M in salary.

But I still don't like the idea of trying to build a roster that is suitable for both competing and rebuilding. It just won't work that way, IMO.

Absolutely. That is a win now team. You try to win a championship with that team. And you have the pieces that make it a legitimate goal.

Also, I think DDan is right that you can't have it both ways. Either build it to win now or blow it up. You can't do both, or at least we can't with the salary situation we have.

I want to see them try to fix the roster and give it another shot. The only thing I would ask about that roster is does it have the mental toughness to go deep in the playoffs when challenged?

There is no way the Clippers trade Maggette for JET. No way. And most Miami fans wouldnt do Marion for Howard, and I dont blame them at all.

Off-Limits:
I cant honestly say any player on a team thats never won the title and isnt under 25 should be off limits, so no one.

Only trade if its blow your mind off
Dirk Nowitzki

Trade if it upgrades
Josh Howard
Brandon Bass

Resign, Keep, Give PT
Antoine Wright
Rashawn Terry

Dump/Trade
Everyone else

I'm all for this, with one exception. Kidd should be right there with Dirk, also, if one of them goes the other should as well. The only exception being if you can trade one of them for someone who lights a fire in the other's eye. They seem to be happy playing with eachother and that means they will be competetive with any basketball teams as long as the team as a whole can buy into the coach's message (which would be a very tall task with the same team coming back.).
