It's crazy how irrelevant Allen Iverson has become in Denver

Post#1 » by Nick Sigler » Fri May 9, 2008 12:16 am

This is not a remark about his talent, because he's still one of the best players in the NBA. It's just about the fact that.. nobody seems to notice. Really, the guy has become completely irrelevant in Denver.

This is a guy who was ALWAYS in the MVP discussion, ALWAYS in the best player in the league discussion, ALWAYS talked about on Sportscenter, ALWAYS on the cover of magazines.

Now he's just kind of.. there. Despite the fact that he had one of his best and most efficient seasons in years, he was nowhere to be found in the MVP voting or discussion, and was left off the All-NBA teams.

It's mind boggling, when you think about it. How did his popularity/relevancy fall so far so fast?

I think it's because of Denver's perception as a team. They're seen as a bunch of lazy, underachieving big names who only play offense.

While Philly also struggled when he was there, he was seen as a hard working superstar with a poor supporting cast

Denver's a smaller market and their being overshadowed in the West is dragging him down.

But you'll also see a lot of Nugs fans thinking that as good as he is (and he's still great, even for being 32), he's not the right player for the team.

Does anyone actually fear him anymore?

I know when the Jazz are going to play the Nuggest the only thing I worry about is someone like Camby going off and their team winning.

Otherwise I feel like playing against AI is a bonus for the opposing team, he'll get his, but nobody else will usually.

partially because of Denver being a small market, and partially because people have moved on from AI and there is a lot of new blood in the NBA.

..and Duncan, and KG.

Basically the good players from 2002 who are still of prime age and don't shoot 42.6% for their career.

Iverson had a great year this year. I sure as hell haven't forgotten about him. He's still playing like he did 5 years ago and hasn't missed a beat. I'd take him over Deron Williams anyday. The only pg i'd take over him would probably be Chris Paul because of age. You'd be foolish to underestimate someone like Iverson.

It's because people have figured out that his impact on the game is a lot smaller than what his numbers would suggest.

Its cuz Denver is playing in the West. If they were in the East theyd be reguarded as one of the best teams in the league, a better record and perennial finals contenders. West is just too stacked even for a team like Denver.

Deron Williams>AI

AI is far from a pg and that's the whole problem, he is a black hole who doesn't play defense

Denver's a good team and has so much potential. I'm not completely sold that the iverson and melo experiment didn't work. They need to fire George Karl. He doesn't have the X's and O's and doesn't command the discipline needed to run a team wtih Denver's personnel. Denver just needs a new system in play and a hard nosed coach that will demand that respect of his players.

Iverson's career was wasted on 2 of the worst underachieving franchises in the modern day era.

Incompetent owners and front offices all the way down. I hope Lebron doesn't go through it in Cleveland.

Denver won 50 games. Is there something wrong with that?

Philly>Denver in the media

AI/Melo haven't been that combination that has been dominating. The team record is ok. But with those pieces they should be contending for the title or at least the WCF's. But they barely made the playoff's......
I'm so tired of the typical......

He must be talking about Ray Allen he did go scoreless for the first time since his rookie season.

Unless he's talking about Philly's AI. But Iggy's first name is Andre?
