RGM Pre-Draft Summits

Post#1 » by APerna » Thu May 8, 2008 4:11 pm

Hey posters,

First of all, I'm sorry that your team wasn't able to make it to the second round of the playoffs. I definitely identify with you, since my Pacers weren't even able to make it that far. I am looking to put together NBA Summits for each team as the Draft draws closer.

I put together a ton of these on the NFL forums heading into the draft and they were wildly successful. I hope for the same here, and I know the population of these boards will lend itself to many responses.

Editor Chris Reina and I have put together these seven questions for you all to answer, with the best answers making it into posted pieces on our main page. The only thing that I ask is that you please limit your responses to two sentences per question. Please try your best to heed that request, it makes the Summits easier to read and quicker to put together.

Thanks gang, and best of luck in the Draft.

We need to be healthy. Can't win when 4 of your regular 5 starters are injured. 1 season ended injured, 3 required surgery in the off-season.

I agree with both responses... but here's mine.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs?
Stay healthy, more consistent shooting from the role players, more effort on defense.
2. Where were the team

Roll everyone on the court in full (heavily padded) body armor.

2. Where were the team
Morey 2020.

I agree with the consensus.

1.) We really could have attacked the basket better and take advantage of the chances we had throughout the series, hit open shots, defensive rebounded better and make FT's!

2.) Our defense, chemistry and heart, really our most consistent all season considering all the adversity we went through.

3.) Carl Landry easily, we were at one point wondering if he even deserved a roster spot. Crazy to think about that now.

4.) Mike James was expected be one of our main scorers from the perimeter but he couldn't even find himself in the rotation. I would say Head, but I already had soured on him after LAST years playoffs.

5.) Morey on the most part has been solid, so I have faith in the front office. But I do have concerns if they feel we can just stand pat and compete if we stay healthy.

6.) A third option that can create his own shot and overall more consistent and efficient role players that can shoot from the outside. An upgrade at PG would be nice despite Rafer's improvement this season.

7.) Don't know much about the draft, but Brandon Rush seems like a nice prospect. Seems to have a good feel for the game and has good size at the 2 guard. A guy like Lopez would be solid as well especially if Mutumbo retired.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs?
Our team could have attacked the rim more agressively to draw fouls.

Hit those open shots and FTs as well as get those defensive rebounds!

Win? Actually want to win? We had zero chance to win the series before it began, but as it went on, we had a chance, just didn't think we should win it. Again, the mental aspect beat us.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs?
Even with all of the injuries, we still could have won if we'd rebounded, shot a less pathetic percentage from the free throw line, and actually guarded Williams instead of leaving him open for threes all the time.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs? Instead of asking Chuck Hayes to do anything truly useful on the court, Adelman should've sent him in the game with a pair of brass knuckles and a hit list. Ditto Luther. What other options did we have, since the NBA doesn't score on an injury-based curve?

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs?
Have a healthy Rafer Alston for more than 3 1/2 gms. Without him on the floor the offense was stagnant. Add that to lack of our role players hitting open shots and missing easy put backs it makes Tracy's job alot harder.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs? Nothing. Yao was injured, we had no shot. Although less playing time for Luther Head might have helped.
