What would it take for Houston to acquire Mike Miller?

Would expiring contracts and draft picks work? or would someone like Battier must be included?

At the deadline, the Grizz had the opportunity to trade Miller and Cardinal to the Heat for expirings and declined.

I would swap Miller for Battier straight up. I'm very happy that the Grizz landed Rudy Gay. It killed me to see Shane leave. I'm sure the Rockets wouldn't trade Shane for Mike though.

Houston may not be the best trade partner for Miller's services. Houston would like to get better Defensively so losing your best Defender who is not breaking the bank does not seem likely.

Houston like a lot of teams are attempting to clear CAP space for a run on the free agents of 2010/11 season. The list includes Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Amare Stoudamire, Chris Bosh, and others. All have player options they can opt out of. Houston will have CAP room as McGrady contract ends before that season so it is likely they will ride it out. Memphis's position is a little different as they can provide assistance to a team looking to shed a longer term contract to have CAP room and make a run on one of those free agents. Mike Miller's contract expires so say a team has a 13 million dollar player like a Richard Jefferson and they want to have CAP room at that time and not necessarily receive equal value in return. Then Jefferson for Miller/Cardinal makes more sense for that team and the Grizz.

Hence Mike Miller's value is a lot more than expirings and CAP relief as potentially they could acquire a marginal star in return due to a team's belief they can acquire one of the elites in 2010.

Now does a Miller for Battier make any sense when you take these other factors into consideration? Maybe, this is the Grizz so you never know.

Agreed. I think Battier next to Rudy would be a whole lot better than having Miller next to Rudy. I'm sure the Rockets don't want to put a defensive liability next to T-Mac.

Luis Scola from Houston. Then trade for the rights to Tiago Splitter from San Antonio and reunite the two that have played together at power forward and center for years.

Makes the decision to draft a shooting guard like Mayo easy if the Grizzlies are below the top twp picks.

I disagree with everything you have said.

When making trades the best and most likely trading partners tend to be rebuilding teams and contenders.The reason that they are great trading patners is that contenders are willing to take on contracts, while rebuilding teams are sheding contracts by taking on expring contracts, young talent and draft picks. The biggest trades of this season have been between rebuilding teams and contenders, examples: Kidd trade, the rebuilding team was NJ while the contending team was the Mavs; Shaq trade, the rebuilding team was the heat while the contending team was the Suns; kover trade, the rebuilding team was the sixers while the contending team was the Jazz; and as a Grizz fan you know about the Gasol trade.

With all that being said, I question your NJ/Mem trade. With the fact that both teams are in rebuilding mode, why would mem what to trade for a guy who is the same age as Mike, cost more then Mike per season, and has more seasons left on contract compared to Mike; correct me if i am wrong, but are these not the reasons why grizz heading towards trading Mike because of age and his contract?

What the grizz will most likely get for miller is a combination of expring contracts, young talent and draft picks.

The probability of Lebron, Wade, Melo and even Tmac type players hitting the market are slim to none. Every year teams, or may I say fans, think that one of these players will leave their repective teams and go to another team and every year these type of players resign with their current team before they even hit the market. This sort of thing happens almost every year, what is usually left are second and third teir players.

Here is a three way trade i think is fair between the Bucks, Rockets, and Memphis.

Memphis gets:
Villanueva
Mason
Buck's 08 2nd rounder

Houston gets:
Miller
Lowry

Bucks gets:
Head
Jackson
Houston's 08 and 09 1st rounder

If Memphis would take CV/Des Mason/2nd for Lowry and Miller, we'd just do that and cut Houston out.

Jackson(expiring), Luther Head, Aaron Brooks, first round pick (25) summer 2008.

I think this is a good deal, Aaron Brooks it's a very good future point guard. And Head is a decent young sub. for Mike Miller.

I think Rockets would never trade Battier at this point, he is really important for the team, as for Landry, he is like a 6th man, really important player not for the future, but for now.
Maybe Jackson+Landry+Head for Mike Miller....
