Can anyone tell me about that place because we were planning on moving to clayton cali. and i have no idea what to expect in that place. I'm actually new to this country and have stayed in NJ for a couple of months now and have a hard time adjusting. For those of you who know the place or any better place near that area please tell me so i can have an idea about the place, thanks in advance.

Dunno. About 25 years ago I used to live in Concord which is connected to Clayton (I actually lived just off of Clayton Rd). It's fairly nice, suburban, boring, but an easy commute into the city if you hop on Bart (the local subway/transit thingymajig).

If you are 22 from NJ and aren't connected to a significant other, find some roomates and move into a place in the city. It's worth it. You're only going to be able to live like that while ou are unencumbered. Take advantage while you can, just don't try to get your own place there unless you are way ahead of the curve in earning power.

My 13 year old boy lives part time in Clayton with his mom, so I have a good idea of what it is like.

Clayton is a lovely little town, rather upscale (though not insanely so like Danville, Alamo, and Blackhawk), and quite family friendly. It has very little of its own economy, so in that sense it is really a bedroom community to Contra Costa County, even though it is a part of it.

Getting in and out of Clayton during normal commute hours is horrible. You only have street access to the main highway (680) and you won't average much more than 15-20 miles per hour until you get to a freeway exit.

Since Clayton is a bedroom community, you will end up having to go elsewhere for your entertainment. Fortunately, there is a nice area within 10 miles (the <fill in the blank> Pavilion) whose schedule you can check online. If you don't want to drive into SF, Bart will take you there and there are two pretty convenient stations to get to Bart (which is our public train transportation).

The climate is pleasant and the view is spectacular, especially if you like staring at mountains since the city sits virtually right at the foot of Mount Diablo.

But Clayton is expensive compared to most other parts of the US. The median cost of a home is probably still around a half million dollars even with the weakened CA housing market, so if you want to buy something you'll need to plan on a six figure salary or thereabouts.

I have no idea what the rental market is like. If you want to know more, leave a message for me here and I'll cal you over the weekend.

Hope this helps.

Concord is a boring boring boring town. So I'm guessing Clayton is a boring ass town too. And the real estate prices are dropping like crazy there. You have houses going from 500k in 03-04 to 300k today.

while Concord and Clayton are pretty boring durring the week, Walnut Creek has a pretty good downtown, especially on the weekends.

one perk about being in the East Bay though, especially the WC to Dublin corridor(clayton not that far), there are many good looking women...

Clayton is awesome, but far from the likes of New Jersey I'm guessing.

I live right down the street bfrom Clayton and they always have some kind of festival going on there. 4th of July is pretty cool.

I can be boring, but as someone else mentioned your 5 minutes from Walnut Creek that has some good clubs and nightlife.

McCoveys restaurant is in W.C. also which has some really cool sports memorabilia that you have to check out.

We're only about 45 minutes to downtown SF and 3 hours from Tahoe. About an hour to Sac, but who'd want to go there.

you'll be fine in Clayton, but if your looking for fast pace, head towards SF.

Umm New Jersey is not really that good for me,maybe in some parts of it but from where im at its been dissapointing since i came from the Phillipines thinking it would be great but so far its been dead. New York on the other hand is good for nightlife and stuffs but is a bit far from where im at. Hows the traffic in SF?

Agree with the other poster who suggested that you live in San Fran. Nothing like it. I live in Walnut Creek, which is pretty close to Clayton, and commute into SF daily. Were I single, I would live in SF fo sho. I am not super familiar w/Clayton, but I am pretty sure its right next to Concord, which is kinda ghetto. There are decent parts, but some crappy ones. In Walnut Creek, when some neighborhood crime occurs, everybody opines that the crooks were probably from Concord (thats old white people talking for you). But its also probably has some ring of truth to it. Walnut Creek is a nice place, a little pricey though.

I guess it all depends upon what your situation is and what you are looking for. Single... live in SF, the commute is do-able. Married w/children...live in WC or Orinda.
