Too little too late in my opinion.
It will take more than this for me to start liking the NBA as a whole again. I will not support the NBA until they completely gut out the officiating and Stern is kicked out.
I HATE THIS GAME

Anyone else get the feeling that David Stern pulls crap like this just to piss Suns fans off?
Sure lets investigate it after it caused the Suns loss
Lets suspend Stat for walking 4 feet over the line but when boston and atlanta benches clear we'll make an exception

No doubt, it always seems like Suns always take the worse of it and then they change the rules after it happens to the Suns. And most of the time, they don't do ****, they just "look into it" and that's that.
I was appalled by the ATL-BOS incident, I expected more than just techs.
Still, far too late to have any meaning.

Some of you guys need to get an idea. So he doesn't change anything or even look into it and you guys give him a hard time. Then he goes and says it needs to be looked at and it still isn't good enough.
Seriously, you sound like a bunch of whining Spurs players.
Here is an idea Shaq, learn how to shoot flaming free throws and it would never be a problem. "I'm too big, my hands are too big, I have practiced, yada yada yada." Hmmmmmmm I wonder how Yao Ming got to be a good free throw shooter?
Personally I like the fact that the rule is getting looked into, I don't like it and it makes Basketball resemble a type of Baseball drawn out game, which is good for some but for Basketball fans, no thanks.
IMO it is an unsportsmanlike act and therefor should be treated as such. A deliberate foul off the ball should result in a shot/shots the entire game. Thus eliminating Hack-a-anyone.
Yes I am for the rule to be looked at, but what did you expect the man to do, change the rule mid series?

I agree, it couldn't have been done mid series. But it would be nice if the rules, you know, had some.... whats that word...?
C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y
Atlanta-Boston Series. No suspensions what-so-ever? Honestly?
Kidd foul that should have been a flag. 2 and 1 game suspension.
Billups 3-pointer. (Yeah I know the current rules don't allow to review but my God, that one was pretty obvious!) And why is it that even when the ball is in play and the refs later see the clock not working they stop play to fix it and then replay the ball? Why couldn't they do it on this play? Because it was the end of the quarter? It was under 6 seconds? Because the game was held at Detroit? Because the ref wasn't wearing matching socks?
And none of those games affected our series.
And as for the Hack-a-Shaq, I am applying my statement "Too Little Too Late" even before he dawned a Suns uni. The Spurs were not the first to use this method... people do realize this right? This should have been looked at 5 seasons ago. Not just because of this past season.

What blows me away is that the other night, Cassell went for the ball that Lebron had behind his head. When Lebron pulled the ball away, Cassell's hand caught Lebron in the face. It was ruled a flagrant 1. The definition of a flagrant foul is one that has excessive contact or one that occurs when it is determined that the defender is not making a play for the ball. Now, when you wrap up Shaq 70 feet from the ball, is that considered making a play for the ball? Why isn't that a flagrant? I know the contact is not excessive, but they certainly aren't making a play for the ball!
As far as Stern goes, he has always been a "too little, too late" commissioner. In the 2004 Finals, the Pistons were basically anal raping Kobe and the Lakers (and I'm not a Kobe fan by any means!). Payton was not allowed to look in the direction of Billups, and all he did was ram his shoulder into Payton the whole series and get to the line to shoot 2. When Shaq did it, they called it an offensive foul. After the series, Mark Cuban put together a little committee with video evidence showing how much contact the Pistons were getting away with. One of their defensive "secrets" were to bump the perimeter players just hard enough with their bodies to get them off balance for enough time for the help defenders to get in position to block the shots. And low and behold, the rules were changed that summer, AFTER THE SERIES, even though the Pistons were doing this the ENTIRE SEASON!!!!!
Stern, or Little Napolean as I like to call him, is a horrible commissioner. He is molding the game into something that he wants it to be and refuses to bend, even in that refusal compromises the integrity of the game. And I agree that no suspensions in the Boston-Atlanta series shows an obvious bias AGAINST the Suns. I thought it was ridiculous that Duncan and Bowen weren't suspended for leaving the bench earlier in the game when a smaller "skirmish" occurred. Now, the EXACT same situation occurs on the Boston series, and no one was suspended? They didn't change the rules, and we all know from last year that the rule has to be followed to the T, right? Why wasn't it enforced this year?????

While i hate the hack-a-shaq as most as the next guy, i don't think there is a proper way to impose a rule on it. I mean, the refs gotta call the foul i suppose, otherwise the guy could just grab ahold of shaqs legs and jump on his back, basically do anything to prevent him from going to the basket. But if you give people 1 shot plus the ball back, what happens when there is an actual foul away from the ball? Does it really deserve the 1 shot plus the ball back if it was unintentional? That's a lot of potential points to be throwing around in a game i think. The refs are already screwing up games enough as it is by calling BS fouls, now they'll be giving the teams a free point PLUS the ball back? I don't want to give the refs awful decisions even more impact.
I don't think anything will be done about it. Guys just need to learn how to shoot free throws better i suppose. And Shaqs been the only guy this strategy has been that used really. Pop tried it on Chandler and it didn't work so well. Coaches tried it on Ben Wallace, but not to the extent that Popovich did it on Shaq. It was just ridiculous on Shaq. And do we need to impose a new rule for a guy thats only going to be in the league another two years? I know they'll be other players that can't shoot, but any as important to have on the floor as the Shaq daddy? I don't know...

As a Raptors fan, I sympathize with your team. Stern changed the rules following the 1994-95 Raptors expansion team to nullify the Raps automatically getting the number one pick, therefore Toronto lost out on Iverson.
The year leading up to the 2006 draft, Stern changed the rules so that no high-school student could declare, therefore the Raptors missed out on Greg Oden, who had the initial intention of declaring for that draft but had to go a year in college instead.
So most Raptors fans hate David Stern just as much as Suns fans do.

Quick, Mkot, SDU, someone.. figure out a way to Sticky this on the general boards..
What does it take to get a commish ousted? The owners, probably, correct?
Stern is trying to make the NBA like pussy ass Euro type basketball, so it's easily to sell to international markets; specially with the NBA seeing heat from the Euro FIBA leagues possibly pulling draft picks away..
Next thing you know he'll want to turn the lane into that horrid looking triangle-thing that they use in FIBA..

That's easy. Only give the shot and ball if the foul is intentional. I know it is still up to interpretation, but if you can't tell the difference between someone bear hugging someone or someone setting a botched screen then you need to be shot.

FIBA announced about a month ago that they would be going to the rectangle type of key in the near future.
