Carmelo attempted 19 shots per game. That's about right for someone who's the star of the team. Allen Iverson managed to attempt .4 less. So, I don't exactly know what you mean by ball hog, but I believe he could coexist with Dirk. Now, I'm not saying I support the idea of acquiring Melo, but I don't see him being a problem as far as chemistry goes.
The thing that bothers me the most about his game is the lack of defense. He just doesn't play any. I prefer us to stay with someone that's going to be a big threat on offense and have some defensive capability.
$14,410,581
$15,779,912
$17,149,243
$18,518,575 Player option
For that amount of money it would be very difficult for us to trade for him. We also could find away to improve our team by acquiring other serviceable players that don't make nearly the amount Carmelo does.

Personally, I don't think Anthony is anywhere near superstar level, and his numbers are incredibly inflated, IMO. Every time I see him, he puts up great numbers, a large number of which are easy dunks and layups that someone else on that team creates (usually via a leak-out or fast break). I just think he's incredibly overrated.

No. Denver would ask for way too much, and he is not worth all of what Dallas would give up. Not trying to take anything away from Carmelo, becaus he is young and very athletic, but he is not a smart basketball player at all. I dont think it is a stretch at all to call him the most overrated active player in the league. I would rather bring Camby from Denver than Carmelo

I can't believe all the negative talk on Melo; he is young and has a bright future in the NBA. The only reason why one should want Maggette over Melo is the cost to get Melo vs the cost to get Maggette.
That said, I would not want him either because he would demand superstar type trade bait and I think it is stupid to build a team (personnel wise & fiancially) around any SF not named Lebron (who plays both ends of the court).

All depends on the price. If he can be had for Josh Howard and throw-ins, I'd expect the Mavs do that in a heart-beat. He's a young superstar in a league where you have to have superstars. He'd be the best co-scorer Dirk's ever had, and he'd be a possibility to take over as the team leader once Dirk fades.
Problem is, I highly doubt the Nuggets want Josh for Carmelo. I would guess they want young (cheap) talent and high draft picks. Mavs have neither. Maybe a 3-way using Josh, but why would team C want Josh instead of Carmelo?
Nuggets might be willing to discuss something with Dirk invloved, and I'm not so sure the mavs shouldn't look at it, but I highly doubt Cuban would go down that road at all.

So he makes too many easy baskets? Can't have that on the Mavericks. Half-court isolation resulting in a fade-away jumper is the only way to go.

He's very close to being a superstar. His game speaks for it's self, but he lacks of the leadership that's needed to put him over the top, and it's not like he makes his teammates better. Don't forget how young Carmelo is, even Josh Howard has four years on him, and Josh will never reach the heights Melo will.
I don't see any problem having Carmelo on offense, but I don't trust him on defense, so that's my biggest concern about his game. It's not like he needs to be our leader. He just needs to be our second option or step up like he wants to be our first option. Melo would be someone else that can free Dirk up and Josh Howard doesn't exactly do that. He'd also be here for the rest of Dirk's contract and at that point we could considering our options. However, adding him leaves us with less options, until Jason Terry's contract comes to an end, because thats when other teams will actually consider trading for him. I just don't see any team taking on the last four years of Jason's contract unless we don't plan on acquiring any value back. I mention Jason because he's one of the few that should have some trade value and he's someone I want us to move.
Still, there are other options out there that we should pursue first, but if those fail, I'm all for acquiring Carmelo Anthony if it doesn't involve our future (picks/Bass). The players I want us to pursue first before Carmelo are the following:
Shawn Marion
Elton Brand
Corey Maggette
Mike Miller
Luol Deng

Shawn Marion might cost too much to aquire: Howard/Terry. While I would want him too, you basically trade two top 4 players for 1 and we still dont have that 2nd guy who can score, nor would be be able to get him after this. That scares me.
Elton Brand isnt coming to Dallas. Period.
Maggette I would love but I dont know if we get on the level of the top teams.
Mike Miller makes us no better IMO. Just another jump shooter, unless there would be other trades involved (I dont see anything MEM would want besides Howard, and that's not a good trade for us).
Deng I would love, but I dont know if he makes us better. I would like to get him if we were rebuilding though. He's only 23 yrs old.

You've obviously nailed my argument: I hate easy baskets and want the Mavs to attempt difficult shots every trip down the floor. Come on.
The point was that Anthony's numbers seem inflated to me, because he gets so many easy baskets that he doesn't create for himself. Translation: he might not be as good offensively in Dallas as his numbers in Denver might indicate. And I don't want to pay a superstar price for a guy I'm not convinced is close to that level.

Re: Melo As A Maverick?
I would trade Terry and Josh for Melo in a second. In less than a second. The guy would be the perfect 3 next to Dirk.
The only problem would be asking Dirk to accept a lesser role and become more of a defender and less of a scorer. But everyone knows Dirk, he wouldn't have any problem with it.
The Mavs need to take pressure off Dirk from having to score everytime they need a bucket. Melo can do that. Josh and Terry cannot.
The only concern would be Melo's defense. He's worse than Dirk.
