Get Zach and JR Smith

Post#1 » by EnySpree » Sat May 10, 2008 2:39 pm

I'm not a philly fan but I read on realgm how Philly is looking for a power fwd and Elton Brand and Josh Smith came up. Long shots imho.......plan C? Zach Randolph.

Yeah I'm a Knick fan but watching your team make the Piston sweat made me think of Zach. Zach in thads place as the starter may have gotten your team past the pistons......at least woulda got you closer. Zach brings the scoring and rebounding Philly craves.

Zach, iggy, miller, dalembert........?

Yeah that's when JR Smith comes in. He would be freakin perfect for Philly. His jumpshot and his athetisism. Crazy.

Now what's the cap situation like?

JR could get a mid-level type of deal. If you guys have any cap left you could take Zach. Trade bum ass Willie green and mr. Sac tapper himself to eat some of Zachs contract and tag the rest to the payroll.

Can it happen, would you guys do any of this?

Someone said something about Knuckleheads.

Not exactly the first names that come to mind when you are building a team based around intens pressure defense and athletasism. One can'r the other won't. Philly can wait for better options that bring positives without such baggage.

zach would be a decent fit if he made a buttload less money, and weighed a buttload less weight

Both of those players look decent ON PAPER. But they are not professional enough as pro athletes to be champions in my opinion. I see this team taking steps back by signing them. If both of those players brought more to the table either as professionals or skill/talent wise, then I would be on board. They both are distractions...

Agree...below the head, they are perfect fits, but it takes a drastic turn for the worse when you include their heads. Unfortunately, the head and body is kind of a package deal.

Both have character issues and are inconsistent from time to time especially J.R Smith.

I know, you want to dunp Zach in our lap. No way Jose. Keep the slow legged Zach and Eddie show in New York. Only David Stern can bail you guys out. It will not shock me if he gives you guys the ist pick in the draft. :noway:

As a Denver fan I think that Philly would be making a great move by going after Jr Smith in the off season.

First of all, you know that he plays very well with Andre Miller (he averaged 17ppg alongside Miller in Denver), and JR is a much better player now than he was when Miller was Denver. He is also a lights out shooter, and that is the one thing that Philly desperately needs. He is also a perfect fit for Philly's move towards more athletic players (Williams/JR Smith/Igoudala/Young/Dalembert would be hands down the most spectacular display of athleticism the NBA has ever seen in a 5 man unit). If you get Young to beef up and play the 4 you would have an unbelievable young core.

Stealing Jr away from Denver would probably require overpaying. But t 6 mill per season the Nuggets couldnt match, and the upside here, IMO, is unbeatable.

Zach Randolph is EXACTLY what the 76ers need in a powerforward...

too bad hes a criminal with huge character issues....sixers pass just on that

Get Zach and JR -Step one.

Shoot self in head -Step two.

To avoid unnecessary time, stress, pain and expense your franchise may proceed directly to Step two.

Does anyone think we should possibly consider a trade with the Knicks? I've been a fan of what Dalembert brings, but I'm a realist in that he is a knucklehead and has terrible hands. What if we could get Randolph and a NY's First rounder? I remember a while back saying that the Suns were interested in Sam, and with D'Anoni there, there could be interest.

I'd be surprised if the Knicks can find someone to take Curry or Zach. They both make a ton of money, are always out of shape, play no defense and are knuckleheads.

JR Smith would be a top 2 or 3 offensive option here. Maybe he'd become less of a problem (mentally) as a result.

Getting JR Smith was part of my Miller to Denver plan. It was Miller for JR and Denver's 20th pick. We could always request additional first round picks too in the deal. Miller doesn't want to be here. We need a SG with natural scoring instincts. Denver needs a PG in the worst way. I personally think that Lou can handle the duties but if not, use our 16th or 20th on a future PG and the other pick on a PF. Then use our cap cash for a PF via free agency. Done deal. JR comes off the bench behind Iguodala at SG, Thad plays SF, we get our future PF via our 16th pick and free agency, and use Denver's 20th on a backup PG in case Lou doesn't pan out. Problems solved.

Unless Denver is suddenly 8M under the cap they can not take on Miller's 10M salary without sending us equal salary in return.

The Sixers are under the cap, so could take back extra salary, but the reverse is not the case.

I can't think of any 8M player I want from Denver- Nene, KMart, and Camby don't fit.

You're forgetting the option of a S&T. Not that I'd want to sign Smith to a $10 mil deal, but he'll probably get around 5-6 mil.

Nene is intriguing actually. I know he's been injury riddled but after seeing Sam regress against Detroit, I wouldn't mind having another big body backing him up - especially someone with Nene's girth. Sam's lack of lower body strength was really highlighted against Maxiell and Sheed.

In fact, I would do that trade if it worked out; Nene, JR, and their 20th pick for Miller. I would even throw in WG so as to make more room for JR and Carney.

PG: Lou, Denver's 20th pick
SG: Iguodala, JR Smith
SF: Thaddeus, Carney
PF: Nene, Our 16th pick, Evans
C: Sam, Jason Smith, Nene

Am I correct that we would still have our cap cash too even if we swapped Miller and Green for Nene, JR, and their 20th? If so, even better because we could still target Josh Smith or Brand. Anyway, you can't deny that adding Nene, their 20th, and JR Smith would not make this team much better next season.

I am not sure what the fascination is with Denver players.

Nene and K-Mart are huge injury/physical risks who don't really deliver all that much performance, but have salary cap choking contracts. There will be plenty of cheap, bulky, back-up center/PF types at #16 in the draft this year, in fact it seems to be the late to mid first round specialty of this draft.

Iverson is "been there and done that" for the Sixers, but he's actually more desirable than 'Melo which is why Denver is said to be considering shopping Anthony.

JR Smith is a mindless, one dimensional gunner with well documented attitude problems. Making him a first scoring option here and hoping his attitude would therefore improve would be akin to making Ron Artest team captain in hopes that he would suddenly be less crazy.

Camby would be a great player for a contender to pick up, but by the time our team is a contender he will be in his late thirties. In the right deal I might go for him much more quickly than the guys noted above.

Linas Kleiza is a nice piece as a shooter off the bench, that's whay they refused to include him in a trade for Artest. Based on his modest salary he may be the most marketable player the Nuggets have.
