Breaking News - SI: Knicks hiring D'Antoni as coach

So long Mike, best of luck out in NY...

some interesting info from the article:

A divide also developed between D'Antoni and the Suns' personnel people, assistant general manager Vinny Del Negro and senior vice president of basketball operations Dave Griffin, who were aligned with Kerr. Management believed that D'Antoni didn't have nearly enough confidence in his bench and that his refusal to open up his rotation hurt the team. The coach maintained that he wasn't given the proper players and therefore did not trust his bench. D'Antoni also believed that the front office did not have full confidence in his assistant coaches, a group including veteran Alvin Gentry, newcomer Jay Humphries, Phil Weber (who specialized in individual workouts with players) and Dan D'Antoni, Mike's older brother.

so it was MD against Kerr, Vinny Del Negro, and Dave Griffin. Surely Mike, when so many people think you should change just a bit, wouldn't you at least consider it?? :banghead:

Thanks for the last few years. Hope you do better out in NY.

Well, at least it's done now.

1.Hire Thibodeau, or as unlikely as it sounds Rudy T.
2.Get an assistant coach that can continue to run the offense built around Nash's strenths.
3. Make some trades.

All we know about Thibodeau is that he's a defensive beast....but what happens to our offense now? I swear to god, if we turn into a slow-it-down, dump it into Shaq, use 24 seconds type of team...grrrrrr

I am hoping, if in fact we get a Thibodeau type coach, is that he is humble enough to put offensive minded assistants on his staff. That, or he lets Nash be the player coach on offense.

Yeah...as long as he's all, "Here, Steve, you do whatever the hell you want on offense, but I'm benching anybody who misses a defensive assignment" I'm cool.

It made me sad reading that Nash article.. "Mike's my coach, I expect to see him back in October"

Shows you how selfish MD is and how he doesn't care about his players.

MD's #1 priority is taking care of Mike. Gotta love a guy who thinks he's on a higher pedestal than God and refuses to stay and make some minor adjustments to his philosophy.

yeah, let's not turn this offense into a scheme that may actually leads to championships. no one would want that.

You really think Shaq's the way to go at this point in his career?

I realize I'm in the minority, but I'm still a firm believer in SSOL....I just rewatched the Spurs series from 05 and we were in every game until the end, so I don't believe it when people say that D'Antoni's system can't win.

I'm not blaming it on luck at all; we've been ridiculously unlucky, but we've just been outexecuted in the ends of games. But to say that that's a result of playing SSOL....that's just not something I believe.

SSOL CAN win, IMO. Maybe Mike isn't a championship coach, but I believe in his system.

Wilbon and Jon Barry just said on ESPN that Phoenix should make Gentry the new head-coach.

I disagree, and I've already said before why I don't want him as the head-coach.

I would still prefer Thibodeu, Eddie Johnson, or Jeff Van Gundy.
