these coaches couldn't win with much more talented teams.. there's a reason they are available. so why do we want them?

IMO Sixers will rue the day they missed an opportunity to sign D''Antoni.

Shades of Jim Leyland signing w/ the Tigers come to mind.

Considering D'Antoni won with Raja Bell and Grant Hill as his starters, I think he has done a heck of a job with the talent he has.

That's bull. D'Antoni has had all the tools to win a title but he has come up short in the playoffs every time. He had a 2 time MVP PG and one of the best PFs in the game, not to mention solid players in Bell, Barbosa, Shaq etc to try and win.

There was no way that Ed would have known that so many coaches would have been available, no matter what the rumblings were when Mo got his extension. To base getting the extension on that is kinda "monday morning quaterbacking things."

What Ed showed is stability in a franchise that has not had that for some time. Its much easier to market stability when you have a widely noted position of need and some of the major free agents are coming from places where they will move based on championship and stability concerns.

so D'Antoni couldn't coach a stacked Phoenix team, but they want him to take over the Knicks who have a roster of garbage.. makes no sense

D'Antoni did a great job in Phoenix. Kerr should have been fired for his horrible decisions instead Kerr and the owner made D'Antoni the scape goat.

I agree though I am surprised he went to that mess in NY.

That's not bull. I've been following the Suns for since Barkley and KJ, and they have not had the tools they needed to win. First of all, the Suns best chance was against San Antonio last year. They played harder than hell, and if not for the Horry hipcheck where they lost two key players, they might have won. The three years beforehand, they have been lacking someone to guard bigs, particularly Duncan. Neither Diaw, nor Amare, nor Marion could guard him. In Fact, Diaw did the best job, which is pretty sad. But it just goes to show you that Marion and Amare are poor man to man defenders.

This year, you are forgetting that they absolutely had nobody to guard Parker or Ginobili. Nash certainly was not going to do it. Bell has been injured and a lot slower ever since. Hell, Grant Hill, their only legit forward had to sit out most of the games because of his injury. Shaq was basically their best defender. Everyone else did not come to play. D'Antoni cannot put heart transplants into Amare, Diaw, or Barbosa. The end game execution at Game 1 were questionable, but there is no doubt that the players lost that series.

The fact D'Antoni didn't win a Championship in Phoenix shouldn't be used against him. He did a great job there and is a heck of a coach.

Some of the best coaches in league history like Jerry Sloan haven't won a Championship. It took Larry Brown about 30 years to win one.

D'Antoni is like Billy Cunningham was for us. They both had amazing winning % but couldn't quite get over the hump. We added Moses that got us over the hump.

The Suns had a team that just needed that final piece to get them over the hump. Instead of keeping the same team and adding that final piece Kerr decided to try to reinvent the wheel. He tinkered too much. Also they lost the past 2 seasons to a dynasty in San Antonio.

Now you'll get the answer to that debate...if D'Antoni is a great coach, the Knicks will win...if Kerr is a great GM, he'll rebuild the Suns and they will win. My money is on Kerr, but both have big challenges ahead of them.

The Suns don't need a rebuliding. Much like Denver themselves, the Suns need a starter at SF/SG that can defend the wing. You give the Suns that, they win titles.

That's not what I read. I read Kerr and the owner wanted D'
Antoni back, but wanted to emphasize defense more. D'Antoni didn't want anyone telling him how to coach.

Also, what horrible decision did Kerr make? Marion was going to opt out at the end of the season anyway. They had to get something for him, and O'Neal played well for them. The Suns just couldn't stop Parker or Ginobili.
