That team would have given any team in history a tough 7 game series. Shaq was just so good in those playoffs. Interestingly enough, the Kobe-Shaq drama began in the regular season that year. Those playoffs should have been Kobe's cue to back off and realize Shaq was the reason they were winning titles, but he didn't and 2 years later their reign ended and a year after the team was dismantled.

shaq didn't reach his prime till 2000. and his role players in 2000-2003 were a lot better.
I wouldn't say a lot better. Kobe was better than Penny, but Penny wasn't a slouch either (1st team in 1995 and 1996). Prime Horace Grant and elite three-point shooters such as Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson made the Magic quite a formidable team.
If the Lakers were better, it was because prime Shaq was better than young Shaq by a bit, as well as for the contributions of Kobe. It was also because the Lakers made clutch plays when it mattered, whereas the Magic team didn't.

I think the Bulls teams would have beaten those Lakers teams in 5 games or so...
And I don't believe the Spurs of this era would be much of a factor against those Bulls teams either... I really believe Rodman's smart defense could have given Duncan plenty of problems, and Pippen/Jordan would have eliminated anything Parker/Manu had to offer...
The Spurs might have gotten one at home if they were lucky against that type of defense..

Not only are your facts inaccurate, but your timeline is way off.

That team was great, but there were a few circumstances that made that run possible:
- the Kings were very close to a breakup because of Webber's claiming he was leaving,
- the Spurs, despite their RS record, weren't nearly as good as a playoff team they're now. They had no outside game if not guys like Porter or Ferry standing there shooting off Duncan's double teams. The only slasher was Derek Andreson who was injured that series
- what really make that team unbeatable was how all the role players were hitting all the threes, making Shaq and Kobe impossible to double team. The year before Portland almost beat them leaving Fisher alone the whole game, it was no more possible.
I think that a injuryfree Spurs and a not mentally close to collapse Kings would have taken a few games away from them.

seriously, does anybody here have seen the championship run of the bulls? the suns pushed the bulls into the limit in their final,(they almost beat them in game 6) and that's with the small kevin johnson guarding mj, a team of spurs with duncan, ginobli, parker and bowen has a good chance of beating the bulls in the 90's,
now compare this,
shaq----> Barkley
Kobe---> kevin johnson,
in my opinion the 15-1 lakers vs the bulls of the 90's and late 90's is 50/50

BS because Shaq wasn't good enough to carry Kobe around anymore after '04 and during that Pistons series it was made clear that Kobe couldn't carry a team without Shaq being a MONSTER like Dwade could. If the Lakers stayed together the Spurs would of gotten their revenge easily.austinjw wrote:Yea, it saddens me so much that Kobe and Shaq couldn't work out their differences. That team was amazing. If they could've stayed together, who knows how many rings they could have. We probably wouldn't even be mentioning the Spurs and the word dynasty in the same sentence.

They didn't push them to no limit. The Suns had the HC Advantage and were down 3-1. They lost 4-2. Shaq and Kobe were greater than anyone on the Pistons in 2004 as well but it didn't matter.

They aren't inaccurate, and the fued started in early in the 01 season. I remember they were going at it in December of 2000. The fact is you Kobe fans have been fooling yourselves about Kobe's "value" to those title teams. The Lakers were horrible without Shaq. They had a winning record when Kobe was missing though.

You're oversimplifying this, but I don't disagree. The way that L.A. team caught fire in the playoffs was mind boggling. Shaq would have averaged close to 40 points and 20 rebounds in a series where he was being guarded by the likes of Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, Bill Cartwright, and Will Perdue. Obviously Kobe isn't as good as MJ, but that wouldn't be anywhere close to the misatch you saw at center.
