"King James" -- opinions?

Irrespective of whether you're a LeBron fan or not -- is it inappropriate for television networks (ESPN/TNT/ABC) and analysts to refer to LeBron as "King James"?

I know it's trendy to refer to players by their nicknames, but it irks me a little bit because "King James" is a much loftier nickname than, say, KG or T-Mac or CP3. I don't want to be told by anyone that he's "King" when I'm casually watching a basketball game.

To be named King you should have archived ALOT more then Lebron has. I really don't like it.

Well the man is rich out of his mind, and only 23. But strictly speaking basketball, I cannot stand him being reffered to as the "king".

I love it. It works, it sounds great, he is the king of the NBA right now with Kobe, he's a stud on the floor, and he's a good guy off the floor even if you don't like him.

He's the king of the NBA right now and 5 years from now there will be no question who owns the league.

I like it.

What about people calling Wade "Flash"? Huh? Do you actually think he's anywhere close to having supernatural speed? I get physically sick when I hear anyone actually call him that. It's disgusting.

If LeBron's last name was Bryant, I can guarantee he would not be called King Bryant. And if Kobe's last name was James, I could definitely see the King James moniker come up.

Other names where King wouldn't not apply: Artest, Diener, and Mutumbo.

What does the bible have to do with anything? King James was a pprominent title for multiple Enligh kings.

In fact, I haven't read the bible. I'm not interested in religion.

But I'm sure if you examined every piece of literature of the world, you could find a lot of different names for Kings. Doesn't mean they roll off the tougue or are as common and well known as "King James".

He co-starred with Denzel Washington in a Spike Lee directed film "He's Got Game", Ray Allen's character was named "Jesus".
