Agent Says Baron May Opt Out

Todd Ramasar, the agent for point guard Baron Davis, failed to make any headway while meeting with the Warriors on Thursday and believes that his client could opt out of his contract and become a free agent, according to The San Mateo County Times.

"After sitting down with the Warriors organization (Thursday) regarding Baron's future, I don't know what direction the Warriors are going," Ramasar said. "Baron is adamant about remaining a Warrior but based on my conversations with the team (Thursday), we have to consider all of his options."

Another source close to Davis claimed that there is a '50-50' chance that the All-Star will become a free agent this summer and pursue other offers.

Davis will make $17.8 million next season if he elects not to opt out of the final year of the six-year pact he signed as a member of the New Orleans Hornets .

If he opts out we should go get him. He would add toughness to this team and he is a leader. We would probably have to do a sign and trade since Golden State won't want to lose him for nothing. So how about Mo, Yi or maybe CV and possibly our Pick for Baron Davis? Add in whatever salary fillers are needed. I think he would be great for this team. So yay or nay to Baron?

If we could get him for what you're saying I'd be all for it. But I doubt that's possible.

I worry about trading too much for Baron since it might be real hard to retain him without overpaying him (so i'm not sure hammond will event consider it). This is also a function of him being injured so often, as paying a guy hgue money is an even bigger problem if they're injury prone.

If he goes on the market though i can see us being in the hunt. mo williams would be a good fit next to Monta Ellis, and we could give them some cap relief and young players/picks as well. I'm not entirely convinced we should trade Yi or our 7 pick (much less both) for him though considering hte contract conerns.

B-Diddy is too fragile and his shot selection is poor at times. He's not goin' to be worth the money it takes to retain him either. All in all bad investment. I'd love monta ellis though.

I' d be all for it. but do you think he would but heads with scott skiles? I think he could be good for Andrew Bogut too.

If he opts out of his 17.8 M contract, considering that he is not that young, it means that he is looking for a contender, and we weren't a contender the last time I checked.

Davis fits the mold of players who expect star treatment because of who they are and what skills they have. He reminds me of Stephon Marbury and Steve Francies. They want top dollar and top billing for past efforts, not for what they can contribute in the present. They get unhappy quite easily, and the solution is to move on - but things don't really improve. They are just burdens for another team. Not just financial burdens, but burdens for the team as a whole. Which explains why teams don't seem to mind paying these players to not play.

If we could get Baron to sign a Chauncey Billups kind of deal I'd go for it. Although I doubt he'd want to play in Milwaukee as a city, as a team we'd be a pretty good fit for him. The east is horrible and he wouldn't have to deal w/the question of making the playoffs---after this year in golden state i'd say that is a major thing he'll be looking for.

Baron is a winner and one of the best PG's in the league.

i would take him if we didnt have to give up too much since hes able to opt out maybe start with mo and add fillers...with that said if he decides to opt out i wouldnt be all that mad because that would be instant cap room that we could really use.

New opportunity? Prove the doubters wrong that he's not a leader? Some players want to improve their image more than they want to win.
