Pat Burke was an monstrosity.

I thought when this all started, though, that 3 years was a perfect amount of time. Nelson was brought in to bring excitement and entertainment back to the Bay Area and Baron Davis was the perfect PG for him to walk into. Our franchise needed a lift from the drought and 1 exciting year wasn't enough to fully remove the stank off the previous twelve. We needed separation. Now we're in the last year of that phase and I can deal with it as long we take the right steps afterward moving forward.

My main beef has been that not playing the young bigs enough has hindered the next step in our development. But I'm willing to concede that POB and Nelson maybe had a falling out and we don't know all sides of the story. Hopefully BW has just been delayed a bit but will still be fine when it's all said and done. We're not in too bad shape as we transition into the next era.

Monta is no Kobe, and AB certainly ain't Shaq so we need another important piece to form our so call big three.

Assuming Monta will play 1 and AB plays 5. should the missing piece be a shooting guard? What if we put Monta at 2 and play AB at 4 and find a scoring center?

In short, how to maximize Monta & AB's talent with adding another piece?

Be patient grasshopper. We ARE building around Biedrins and Ellis-as they figure in to a 10 year plan, but the NBA ain't all 2 man teams or 10 year plans. Baron can make a nice impact for 3-5 years or more...as can any player apt to be on the roster-exceprt maybe Croshere who's no lock to return. We need to get the best damn 15 we can and let the cream rise to the top. We need to have a sense of MISSION when it comes to developing players. We also need a staff that's good at it. It helps to GET the right guys in the draft, plus free agency and trades.

Anything you do,any endeavor-you want to have some vision, imagination, and sieze opportunity but you do NOT bet the farm on every hand, you don't go high risk or buck the probabilities.

Further....We HAVE built some chemistry-team identity and style (finally) and I'd like to build on that rather than veer off on a new course now. I don't want to give up our rung on the ladder to Portland,The Clips,Sonics or Wolves. If we backslide it may take several years to get back to #8.

The best way to maximize the teams success is to have a future of Monta at the PG spot, Wright at the PF spot, and Goose at the C spot. This means we need to work fast (meaning this offseason/trade deadline/ next offseason) to get all the other pieces in play. There are two directions we can go to fill in the roster, they are:

option 1:
Combo Guard SG - Eric Gordon, Mayo, Evans, etc etc.
Defensive, 3pnt shooting SF - Bowen type, Marcus Dove?
Legit backup big - Love, Turiaf, Arthur, etc etc.
example 2011 linuep;
Monta Ellis
Tyreke Evans
Marcus Dove
Brandon Wright
Andris Biedrins

option 2:
Defensive, 3pnt specialist SG - Allen/redd style... Foster, Marco etc.
Point Forward SF - SJax type.. Gallo, Batum, T. Smith, etc etc.
Backup Big - same as first option
example 2011 lineup:
Monta Ellis
Shan Foster
Danilo Gallinari
Brandon Wright
Andris Biedrins

basically, Monta Ellis as a SG in an amazing scorer, possible all star. Yet, Monta the PG has an immense ceiling. Especially if you have either a 2 guard or a SF that can handle the ball and initiate offense. Plus, having wright as a PF allows for an uptempo pace, as well as the ability to switch easily with slower lateral players like Gallo.

Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

If we can trade up, I like option one. Monta/Gordon/Jack/BWright/Andris is a nice starting five after Nellie leaves.

There's a lot of promise there.
