Where would the Magic be with Billy Donovan?

I think it's safe to say SVG has played a pretty big role in Orlando's success this year...so what if Donovan had stayed on as coach?

After watching some terrible plays/execution down the stretch of these playoff games...

Maybe up 3-1 on Detroit.

Let's be honest... they only would have needed 46 wins for the 3 seed.

They would beat Toronto no matter who the coach was.

They got to play two games against Detroit without Detroit's best player.

At worst 2-2 with Detroit.

SVg really did nothing wrong.. I don't know the plays you are referring to but I really doubt he told Dooling to act (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and swipe at Rip and Hedo to lay it in that late.. I think we'd be a 4th or 5th seed probably. The whole offensive structure could of been different if he was coach.

I think he would milk Dwight more. But probably in the same place, down 3-1. Its not SVG fault that Hedo waited (I can't understand why you wait, its not a tie game, you are losing), nor is it his fault game 2 happened (Detroit gets free three points and momentum, hedo once again craps bed late with decisions).

Well that depends on how Hedo plays under Donovan.....clearly its no coincidence he's having his best year under SVG. W/o his play Magic would probably be mediocre

Considering the usual success rate of college coaches, they would be much worse off.

exactly. he'd have already quit to take the indiana or LSU job. or some other college would have fired their coach to bring him back to college basketball.

i cringe when NBA teams seriously consider hiring college coaches who have virtually zero NBA experience.. as players or even assistant coaches.

I think they would have been much worse off too. Both Van Gundy's are excellent coaches imo.

Orlando would clearly be worse under Donovan. SVG has had a huge role in pushing Dwight to improve defensively and in freeing up Hedo to play his game. Two things Donovan would have had trouble doing. We are a playoff team either way, but IMO, a 5 seed or so under Donovan.

The Magic would have still made the playoffs but i think they def dont get 52 wins and dont get the 3rd seed with Donovan. I think the Magic are alot better off with Stan, Billy backing out actually worked out well for the Magic. Billy would have had a hard time his first year or 2 being a rookie pro coach. Stan has done a great job getting Dwight to focus and really had the confidence and vision to let Hedo do his thing. Stan has done a great job of adjusting his game plan to the players available and getting 52 wins out of a team that still has alot of personel holes to fill. The Magic went last year from one of the worst 3pt shooting teams in the league to making the 2nd most 3pt field goals in NBA history, that was because of the system Stan inplemented.
