Boston Bar Liquored Up The Hawks Before Game 7?
May 12, 2008 - 11:38 am
Boston Globe -
Before their Game 7 matchup against the Celtics, the Hawks stayed at the Liberty Hotel on May 3rd in Cambridge.

A league source said Brandon Lyons, who operates the Alibi Lounge in the hotel, instructed his bar staff to give anyone affiliated with the Hawks a double shot in any alcoholic beverage they ordered.

That could explain the lack of life/energy in Game 7...... :o

Well, that sucks but they shouldn't have been out drinking BEFORE the game anyway.

Typical Boston. I knew something was up. The majority of blame would still fall upon the Hawks players though, they were the ones ordering the drinks, and before gameday they should know better.

Shouldn't be drinking before a game 7. That's just stupidity. It's also very shady thing to do, but whatever. I doubt the franchise had anything to do with it.

exactly. even if it's true that the bartenders doubled the shots it's highly unlikely it was instructed by a celtics official

Completely agree. It's not like in Detroit, where police didn't round up near-rioting people outside the (Lakers? Spurs? I forget) hotel to make sure the opposing team didn't get enough sleep.
Hello ladies. Look at your posts. Now back to mine. Now back at your posts now back to MINE. Sadly, they aren't mine. But if your posts started using Optimismâ„¢, they could sound like mine. This post is now diamonds.

I'd even go so far as to say that it's absolutely ridiculous. It's not like the Celtics organization has any control over the bar.

1: If you're drinking before the game, your heads not in the right place anyway.

2: You should be able to tell if your drinks are a bit strong, no ones forcing them down your throat.

3: It's just hometown advantage

Why would you drink before an important game like that .
The Hawks must have a lot of Alchies on their squad that cant tell a double shot instead of a single shot .

Hawks ..."Hey make it a double "
Boston bar " I already did "
Hawks " Ya I cant tell " " You know what make it a triple "
Boston bar " I already did "
Hawks " Cool "

I love when a source claims league sources said something. I don't tend to believe anything just with those words alone.

I really doubt this is a big issue.

First...
No one in that Hawks roster is dumb enough to drink alcohol a night before a game. They KNOW and been lectured about what happens the next day after alcohol consumption.

Second...
Next time playoffs is on, make sure you pretend to be the opposition's staff or assistant coach or bus driver...then go bars... You get double the amount of alcohol for the price of one!!! Good value!! :-)

There are actually quite a few players who play drunk. But ....

This is hilarious.

It was a 1 oclock game too. Either this story is false or the Hawks are the dumbest group of guys ever.
