All-Defensive Teams, a JOKE?

Post#1 » by TMU » Mon May 12, 2008 6:39 pm

Some questionable selections:
- Bruce Bowen (1st team, should be in 2nd team)
- Shane Battier (2nd team, should be in 1st team)
- Raja Bell (2nd team, did he play defense?)
- Marcus Camby (1st team, but Denver is one of the worst defensive teams in the league)

Imo, the media should do the voting.

Bowen and Battier should be flipped. Paul and Camby got in because of numbers, neither of them really belongs on either team. Bell doesn't belong in either, but I'm not sure who deserves his spot.

But these things are all about reputation.

Bowen had no business being All-NBA last year, yet alone this year, and for the first time in years Bryant actually warrants a spot.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree.
Many say it's about reputation. But why give these players a false reputation?

And also can they stop voting on Camby he's at best an average defender.

Bryant started off great...I got laughed at when i said Bynum was more important than Kobe defensively...but the Lakers really fell of once Bynum got injured and were horrible perimeter team defensively.

I think Bowen and Battier do deserve to be over Kobe..they guard the best night in and night out and are hue reasons why their teams are amongst the best defensive teams in the leauge.

Why can the All-Defense teams have 4 F and 1 C, but the All-NBA teams are required to have 2 G, 2 F, 1 C? Anyway, the real jokes this year are 1) Paul over either Billups or Rondo 2) Josh Smith being left off.

I agree 100% with these selections except for Paul. Battier is overrated after that Kobe game.

Bryant is a G, and Bowen has been classified as a G before so I guess that's why.

Bowen making 1st team is a pure reputation vote IMO. My vote would've been:

C - M. Camby (Duncan if eligible at C)
F - K. Garnett
F - S. Battier
G - K. Bryant
G - C. Billups

C - D. Howard
F - T. Duncan
F - L. James
G - D. Harris
G - C. Paul

I love how people keep trying to dismiss Bruce Bowen as a lesser defender the last 2-3 years. Now, has he dropped off to a certain extent compared to 3-4 years ago? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know. If so, the difference isn't much, anyway. Bowen still being a high-level defensive player.

I'm fine with Bowen over Battier on 1st team... both are deseriving for a spot there (if you take out position), but I think Bruce got it because of his reputation and being more versatile as a defender. Also he can be considered a guard. It's not like there's a significant disparity between Bowen/Battier, anyway.

I thought LeBron had a solid chance to make 2nd team this season... but he probably will make a team next year, with this year being his introduction season of consistent, improved defense.

I'm good with the two teams, only part I'm not sure about is Bell.

I'd love to see my man Artest on there again, but I understand why he didn't make it again because of other players on winning teams (and better defensive teams around them, as part of the winning). Glad to see he still finished pretty well in the voting, though.

I can't believe Rasheed Wallace still hasn't made the all-defensive team... 1st I can understand (even though he's been at that level and would be legit if he made that once or twice), but not even 2nd...

How did Kobe make the 1st team when Iverson scored 51 on him this season?

yes.

I'm a little confused by some of the selections, just like the All-NBA teams... but nothing we can do.
