Josh Childress
With the Hawks having 50 mil in salary for next year already locked up minus Josh Smith and Josh Childress, how assured is it that you would resign Smith and Childress? Obviously you will lose Bibby's huge contract and others the year after, so you can take the blow of Childress and Smith, but will you be able to give Horford, Law, Marvin their money as well once their rookie deals end? I think it will come down to Childress or Marvin, who would you choose out of those 2? How much money do you believe Childress would demand? I'm a Magic fan and think he would be GREAT as our starting SG, but we only have the MLE. If we offered him the MLE, the Hawks are more than likely going to match it right, especially if it's a division rival? Hell would he even sign for the MLE? Thanks!

Josh Childress could possibly receive a contract that starts high and decreases after every season. Atlanta needs to match. He's the heart of our bench and possibly the heart of the entire team. I'm not trying to come off like I'm giving Josh too much credit, but he deserves some, and some Hawk fans will never give him his due.

You can't do that with the MLE. The only teams that will assuredly have more than the MLE are Memphis and Philly, two teams unlikely to be spending dough on non-All Star wings.
Any team interested in Childress should be talking S&T.

True.
I'm expecting just as much action to surround Childress that does Josh Smith. Maybe even more due to the amount of money Josh will be seeking. I might be giving Josh too much credit, I just feel there are a large amount of team that want him, and we should expect some decent offers.

S&T was was I was worried about. Looking at the Magic's roster is there anything that would interest you in a sign and trade? Would something like Bogans and a future 1st work for you guys?
Also for the people who say he's going to get a ton of offers, what do you think would be the deciding factor on what team for him to go to? Starting/Bigger Role? Championship caliber team? Young team to develop around(like Atlanta)?
Thanks for all the help.
I'm becoming more of a Hawks fan because I go to UF and Horford is my favorite Gator of all time and is my 2nd favorite NBA player(behind Dwight). Not to mention you guys are so much fun to watch.

I think it could be championship caliber team. I mean, he is what you need to make a team great. he isn't going to be the corner stone, but you need guys that offer exactly what he gives you to win a championship. So I think there will probably be some pretty big teams knocking if they think that Atlanta won't match a MLE.
But chances are, he will want to stay here.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. I figured Bogans or JJ and a future 1st wouldn't be enough, even though you do get a pretty decent backup and all first round picks are valuable. I figured that was laughable though.
Do you guys think you will be able to keep this entire core when all these rookie contracts run up? Will your owners start spending more money? How about Marvin vs. Childress, can you keep both and who would you take?

Sportsrock,
The owners claim they will keep both Joshes. Childress can always be traded next season for a PG to replace Bibby.
Reports were that the Magic offered Dooling + 1st (a similar package to yours) at the deadline, and it was rejected by the Hawks.
