Don't get mad because your team has no idea how to use Ray Allen lmao
I don't get it. Sure, Ray Allen is more talented than the role he is occupying. Unfortunately, he dominates the ball instead of playing off the ball and allowing Paul Pierce to draw fouls, Rajon Rondo to breakdown the defense and distribute the ball and Kevin Garnett to roam offensively.
The way I see it, Ray's job is to provide space for his teammates. I often see him exhibit poor discipline in his spacing. IMO, he has been absolutely terrible in the pick game, as well. Furthermore, he doesn't draw fouls for ****. And if that wasn't enough, it is all wrapped up in a bundle of defensive indifference. Sure, he plays defense on occasion and contributes on the defensive end. He also has a bad habit of going for a dig or doubling and then standing around.
In the pick game, it doesn't matter when someone rolls to the tin unabated-- Ray is going to force up a contested jumper to get his shots. The problem isn't Ray not being used correctly, imo; it is and has been Ray imposing himself on the offense. God forbid Ray might actually get to the line on his own instead of just being the designated technical shooter when he is on the floor.
I have said it before and I think it bears repeating: A Mike Miller is infinitely better suited to be a 3rd option in this offense. Ray's unwillingness to subjugate himself is the reason the offense stalls, imo. I would put in Posey who will play defense and maintain space discipline on the offensive end and bring Ray as an offensive catalyst off the bench (where he can run wild and take all the shots he wants.) One way or another, I try to move Ray this off-season regardless of the outcome of the playoffs.
I said as much here on RealGM and elsewhere since early December.
