"I can't see ______ falling past ________"

Post#1 » by pillwenney » Mon May 12, 2008 5:09 am

(Note: It's probably a little too early...okay maybe a lot too early for this thread, but what the hell--I'm bored).

In creating our mocks and such, things are always going to vary regarding who ends up where. But there seems to always be a limit for each player. So given a teams needs and how much sense picking a given player would make at a given spot, give your opinions on teams that simply would not pass up a given player at their spot.

I'll give a very obvious example just to get the ball rolling (and will add more later, of course).

I can't see Beasley falling past Memphis.

There is a 0% chance that Kevin Love will fall past the Nets (in fact, he'll probably already be taken by Charlotte or Chicago).

Yeah I was going to say that I can't really see Love falling past Charlotte. It just seems like such a perfect fit IMO.

I don't see Batum falling past Toronto. I don't see Robin Lopez falling past Utah, and I don't see CDR falling past Houston.

or Westbrock. Pacers pick one spot above Kings and need a point guard too so if both are on the board the Pacers will choose one at 11 and the Kings will get the other at 12. my guess is the Pacers will go for defense and choose Westbrock leaving Augistin for the Kings but I know they like Augustin's speed.

Cliff Levingston can't see Danilo Galinari falling past the Bucks at #7. They've got a pretty big hole at SF and an unsettled PG position, so it's not hard to see them picking up a small forward with good passing skills.

Brumbaugh will rise in this draft once teams work him out. I can not see him falling past Houston at 55. He knows TMac from his Orlando days and TMac knows very well how talented he is.

Augustin will be a very good NBA point guard and a perfect fit for either Indy or Sacto.

Hope you right. I would really like to see us take him.

It's shocking that when a player possesses nice height and athleticism and dominates the Juco level in the way that Keith did, he doesn't command more respect. I guess people are hesitant to draft straight from the JUCO level because of guys like Qyntel Woods and Kedrick Brown. Still, one must remember that these guys are extremely talented. Particularly Woods, he would be in the NBA if he weren't such a liability off the court.

Brumbaugh has all the ability in the world and should command a high second to late first round pick in my opinion. He is probably going to be taken mid second, but I agree with your assessment that this guy is going to impress scouts in the predraft workouts.

It is not his skills keeping him out of the first round, it is his prison record. 6 arrests in a 26 month span including 2 jail sentences. That is enough to keep the guaranteed money away.

No one questions this kids skills. When he was in high school people used to call him the 2nd best player in Orlando, behind TMac. He will be an absolute steal in this draft if he can keep his head on straight.

I love when teams need a PG, the best PG available becomes their ideal pick... there's no PG in this draft outside of Rose that deserves to be drafted in the top 20...

And no, I dont count Bayless... Arizona is just an undersized SG factory.

Couldn't agree with ya more my friend!!!! Been sayin that about Augustin for months (and Collison before he pulled out), I cringe when I see him in top 10 discussions on ESPN (C. Ford) and DX

I am aware of the prison record, but I do not think that there is much buzz because of the level he plays at. Look to Lee Benson, a former inmate, who demonstrated loads of potential. There was a great deal of buzz surrounding him. (even though you are right that no one will give him guaranteed money)

Still, my point was more targeted at the Juco ranks. It used to be a more respected method of getting to the pros. Now, because of guys like Woods and Brown, name players from the JUCO ranks are not getting as much recognition. We don't have the same perception of the junior college level as we did when Steve Francis tore it up.

There are a lot of good COLLEGE BASKETBALL players that don't make the same level of impact at the next level........plus, outside of the pick and roll on the offensive end of the floor, he looks average in every regard
