Dwight Howard: Team USA

Post#1 » by mattyBoi » Tue May 13, 2008 3:06 pm

Is anyone else not feeling the whole USA team all summer deal...I mean these guys a absolutely exhausted when these playoffs are done, then Dwights going to start training for the team and travel all the way to China to play in a highly competetive Olympics.

My main beef is that next year more than any other, we need Dwight to become our main guy, our offensive go to guy...And on team USA, he is just a rebounder and defender

How is he going to get the offensive moves and shot when he is playing second fiddle to grade A ballhogs like Carmelo, Lebron, and Kobe...I dont like it

He can still have plenty of 20-10 games.

At Orlando, yes. At Team USA ? no.

I kinda agree, wish he didn't participate and use that free time to work on his game.

Dwight will be practicing against some elite big men and will also hang around highly competitive guys like Kobe. That will have some kind of positive effect IMo

I think it is good for him to be around those guys. That is what it is all about, playing with the best because he is one of the best. Plus, I want the team (USA) to win and he is huge for them.

I definitely agree with the 4 posters above me. Playing basketball with and against the best players in the world will never be a bad thing.

Is Coach K still the coach? Dwight indicated that enjoyed his time with him and benefited greatly.

playing with the team is the best thing that can happen to dwight...let's see, will dwight make more progress playing once every 2 days against marcin gortat/tony battie/adonal foyle, or playing everyday, sometimes twice a day against the likes of amare/oden/brand?

Dwight could injure himself anywhere. I think he will be ok. Besides he is doing it for his country. Show some pride people try all their lifes to go to the Olympics!

Bring the Gold to the US, then the gold to Orlando. Add it to the pile of accomplishments that Dwight will own for his whole career. I like him playing for Team USA cause he owns Amare every game.

I'm happy to have him representing the USA, to receive some fine coaching, and to accelerate his learning, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have some reservations.

He's young, and he's been injury free, but you do have to worry about stuff like this catching up at some point. Especially when your seasons start to get a little longer, and the goals aren't just to make the Playoffs, but to be a top team that goes deep into the Playoffs.

Winning gold in the Olympics is more important than the Magic. That's all that needs to be said.

Team USA is party time for Dwight. He gets a chance to be teammates with the best players in the NBA. We have great coaches, but on Team USA, he's working with the best in the country.

Yes he could get injured. The same could happen during the NBA season. But can you seriously believe that he would improve as much practicing with his teammates at RDV center over the summer?

Injuries, to me, are a taboo topic.

They could happen ANYWHERE, in the RDV during offseason, playing for team USA, after playing a lot of BBall or first game back after a long break. Theres no point in worrying about it because its something that you cant really control.

You can definitely take precautions for them, and the responsible players do. I would expect that Dwight is pretty well versed in taking care of his body since he has a pretty amazing track record.

Playing for Team USA is an honor for Dwight and as a fan of his, I am happy that he has the opportunity.
