Exactly right. Why should the Warriors extend his contract now? Even next year when he is unrestricted, he won't have much leverage because not that many teams have cap room. So he can:
a) plan on the full MLE
b) maybe a sign/trade, or
c) a cheap offer by the Warriors for something above the MLE but waaay below what he's trying to get right now.
None of these options produce a near MAX deal which I'm sure he is asking for now.

what about in seattle? they still have no PG. another good one could be portland who also doesnt have a great pg.
