Never thought I'd say this: Pierce chokes and I want Antoine

Post#1 » by Big Baby » Tue May 13, 2008 3:16 am

Pierce is making me mad. WTF? It was troubling to see him not step up offensively all year long, but this is just pathetic.

I want Antoine back. Not to play, but to give Paul Pierce an earful.

Pierce said he's a great player. Well?

Warning for name calling. canman

Pierce had a solid game if you were actually watching. He played lebron aggressively all night and forced him to take crappy shots.

Lebron started scoring when people were setting screens for him. Someone needs to pick him up, and often they did not.

I agree, Pierce once again played excellent defensively. He took some ill advised shots, but played solid defensively.

Weird that you mention wanting Antoine to give him an earful, because I just said that to my friend. I want to see Antoine on the bench in a "coach" type role just screaming in Pierces face to get pumped and play the way that he can. Antoine was a master motivator, at least for that one game.

Pierce is using a lot of energy and focus on the defensive end it will be very hard for him to score like he did in the regular season in this series.

Posey would probably be the guy who should guard LeBron to give Pierce some resting time but tonight Posey was just too slow.....one pick and LeBron would blow right by him and on that one tremendous LeBron dunk it was just a terrible angle that Pose took and he went right by him again.

Pierce is playing out of his mind defensively but when the team is down he seems to still want to take over offensively instead of getting his teammates involved and finding the open man.

Of course it's not only him doing it and God knows I'd rather have Paul on the team than not.

Twan's stats this year:
FG% 3PT% FT%
0.363 0.324 0.530
The Antoine you want doesn't exist any more, Obie killed him.

The original poster was clearly talking about his offensive game and not his defensive game.

Pierce has continued his great D in these playoffs and has really played LeBron well, but we need him more for his offense than his defense. Slowing down LeBron is what the Bruce Bowen's, James Posey's and all the good defensive role players are for. Paul Pierce is our best scorer and an All-Star, we need more than good D from him--especially when we are struggling so much offensively.

And Rocky, the original poster said he wants Antoine because he wasn't afraid to give Paul and earful. He knows Antoine sucks now, read his original post.

Remember when Pierce was struggling against the Nets, settling for jumpers a bit too much and we were down 20? Then Antoine got all over Pierce and he took over the game, went to the rim every time he touched the ball and led us to victory. I don't disagree he'd be good to have around just to get Pierce to go to the hoop like he did when 'Toine got on him.

To be fair, I've read some of grantlongforpresident's posts in the past, so, I'm not at all surprised that he didn't understand a thing.

Pierce's D on LeBron has been spectacular. His offensive decision making and his horrendous free throw shooting have been just angering beyond belief.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Don't worry. I'm sure Paul Pierce is in Antoine's fave 5. Antoine probably calls Paul up, asking him to send him XXXXXXXXL practice shorts, as well as 3 cartons filled with hot dogs from the concession stands in the Garden. Maybe Antoine will try to fire him up then.

:nonono: at the OP.

Rick Pitino, Jim O'Brien and Antoine Walker aren't walking through that door.

The title of this reactionary thread began with "Pierce Chokes"

Dude, i hate to say it but you are grasping at straws. Pierce is not to blame. He made Lebron's life very difficult all game long. He had a below average offensive showing (6-17) but so did the rest of the team.

To say that he was playing unmotivated and that he choked means you weren't paying attention. Pierce was definately playing with intensity. Others need to follow his lead.

This. I can live with Paul being aggressive on the offensive, but "aggressive" doesn't mean jacking up a three, O'Brien-style, when there are 22 seconds left on the shot clock and two or three open men with easier shots. Did you see the few times last night when Paul *gasp* took it to the hoop, no one could stop him, and he scored? That was awesome.

Did you see what the difference was between the times he was taking it to the hoop and when he was non-existent? When Lebron was on him, he couldn't get to the basket. When Pavlovic switched on him, he was able to take it to the hoop at will.
