"O.J. Mayo’s Draft Stock

If proven to be true, how will the events of the past few days affect O.J. Mayo’s standing in this year’s draft as far as NBA teams are concerned? They won’t, at least according to a handful of NBA executives we polled on the phone today. Some were even shocked to hear that topic even being broached. “Come on man. It’s the NBA we’re talking about. If he can play, no one will give a damn” was the most blunt assessment we got from one Assistant General Manager. “If you’re going to dock O.J., then you’re going to have to dock half of the players in the first round” said another."

still not a valid reason to go against said rules.

he's participating/partaking in something many would kill to enjoy, he NEEDS to abide by the rules, no matter how silly they may be.

These institutions make so much money off these kids and your telling me i can't even take gifts and money from friends? Oh but they offer you a free ride education. Everyone knew mayo situation, he was gonna be out of there after 1 year and if it wasn't for the stupid 1 year rule he wouldn't have even gone to college. I don't know about you but most basketball players wanna make as much money as they can before they get in their 30's. They basically retire after 35 so why not make the most money you can as fast as you can?

Mayo will not fall because of this. He took money for promises to sign with the agent. Against NCAA rules? yeah. But how does this affect his play in the NBA?

Webber got into hot water when he lied to an oversight committe. ( which (I believe was federally sanctioned) However, the NCAA does not have any legal power to go after Mayo and or BDA.

The only action that can take would be against USC. Even with that, they would have to prove the link and then prove that USC knew about it. Much like Bush, I am sure nothing will come from it.

Mayo's problems are so overblown.

1. He got caught with weed.

2. A ref took a dive after what was (at most) minimal contact from OJ.

3. He took money he should be able to earn anyway.

I don't consider myself a criminal, or as having problems that would effect my ability to perform my employment duties, but I'd do any of those things. OJ is a very smart kid, a tremendous basketball player, and has proven that he's able to deal with a lot of media scrutiny. Seems like a guy I'd want on my team.

Agreed.

Here's a guy, who probably has no interest in college, but has to go only because he has to wait a year to get to the L.

He's knows he's top 10 at worst, so what does he care about violations.

I'm not blaming OJ, it's the system (NCAA, NBA age rules) that's so ridiculously hypocritical.
