Well, the upside of no significant news is that there is no news of something really wrong with the knee.
His "third opinion," the doctor in New Jersey said there was some improvement and that they should have another look in 3-4 weeks.
For three specialists to not find anything seriously wrong with Bynum could be seen as bad, as in, there's a mysterious ailment that these guys can't find.
On the flip side, it could just be that it's going to be something that's going to take awhile. Maybe Bynum was pushing too hard in the rehab. They're not giving many details, but it seems that it's just going to take some time.
I'm just glad none of the three doctors said, omg it is the worst knee injury i have ever seen, something that we see in car accidents - as was the case with Mihm's ankle.

Trevor Ariza had a bone scan Thursday that showed his fractured right foot is still not healed, and the Lakers plan to wait another two to three weeks before seeking final medical clearance. Ariza, who hasn't played in 31/2 months, is scheduled to see a foot specialist Friday in Salt Lake City and wants to get better news, saying: "It feels fine; no pain. I'm hoping it's healed all the way."

Microfracture has nothing to do wiht the knee cap. It is a surgery where holes are drilled into the bones that make up the knee to try and regrop cartlidge, although it is scar tissue that forms as the cartlidge. If anything he may need some type of cleaning to remove inflammation under the knee cap. If it is improving as the Dr has stated surgery would appear to be minor.

Is there anyone else reporting this?
HOOPSWORLD has learned that Trevor Ariza of the Los Angeles Lakers has been cleared by a second independent doctor. Sidelined for months with a broken foot, Ariza has now sought out two additional opinions hoping to get back on the floor to help the team in its ongoing playoff run.
The Lakers' physician has been conservative as Ariza's CT Scan still shows a line on the bone which is normally interpreted as an unhealed fracture.
Ariza recently saw a doctor in Utah who postulated that the bone has indeed healed and that the line may never fully disappear.

One thing to note is that opinions from even the most highly respected doctors are subjective. If they prove to be incorrect, Ariza could have some serious long-term implications.
in the infamous words of the great Boobie Miles in the movie "Friday Night Lights".
"you are from Midland!"
ok in this case the doctor is from Utah, but it would not pass me that any long time injury to a Laker is good for the Jazz.

Rumor has it that Ariza saw a third doctor as a sort of tie breaker and that the 3rd doctor agreed with the Utah physician. If true, then its up to the Laker's doctor to clear him. He could still eb back for this Utah series ideally. Still going to have to wait on it obviously.
Edit: its not a rumor, confirmed by emplay aka Eric Pincus of Hoopshype.
