New Positions

Post#1 » by joe.linnen » Tue May 13, 2008 2:41 pm

This was posted by another poster and I want to see what come to everybodies mind. I want to know what you who would you lable with the new positions.

SG is a meaningless label.

Rather, we have "wing" players (including Kobe, Lebron, Melo, etc.) who are capable of playing either SG or SF.

Honestly, the whole position system is basketball should be reevaluated. Better catagories would be something like:

pure point- Chris Paul
combo guard-Jamal Crawford
wing-Kobe Bryant
point forward-Lamar Odom
combo forward-Shawn Marion
post player-Tim Duncan
pure center-Dwight Howard

Just leave it as guard, wing and forward. That encompasses everything that they do without all these minutia. Pure centre? What's that as opposed to a post player? And what makes Dwight Howard one? Why isn't he a post player? And shouldn't pure centres be post players? What was Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming, Kareem and Wilt?

Different players have different roles in different systems on different teams. Why does it need to be standardized anyway? For awards? Who cares?

I don't think everything needs to be renamed. Its not like football or baseball where there can be set rules and spots depending on your position. If we are going to separate every different style of play, then we'd need to accommodate positions for guys like Okur, for example.
