Yeah, but you forgot about Denver's 20th pick. And who said anything about making JR our 1st scoring option?

Don't forget that JR is RFA- on a team with serious cap issues. IF we wanted him we could simply sign him to a front loaded salary (like Camby has) and no way could Denver match.

Of course, I'm not convinced that taking on a risk like JR for anything but a low salary makes sense (but then again the declining salary makes even more sense, since he would be easier to move if it didn't work out.)

I agree.
"Nene and K-Mart are huge injury/physical risks who don't really deliver all that much performance, but have salary cap choking contracts. There will be plenty of cheap, bulky, back-up center/PF types at #16 in the draft this year, in fact it seems to be the late to mid first round specialty of this draft.
Ditto again...except that I can understand Chaser's feelings. I've liked Nene ever since that defensive job on Duncan (and overall play) in last years Spurs playoff series. As you stated, however, his injury history, compounded by always present fears after cancer surgery, and his huge salary, make him an unacceptable risk, I believe.
"Iverson is "been there and done that" for the Sixers, but he's actually more desirable than 'Melo which is why Denver is said to be considering shopping Anthony."
Here we part ways. I think it is more conceivable to believe that Ivy's age, very much higher salary, and, to a lesser extent, need to somewhat dominate the ball to be effective, might make him less desirable than a young, probable long time future all star, at a more acceptable salary. These, combined with the truths you mentioned about the rest of Denver's roster, suggest to me that, if indeed they are considering trading Melo, it is because he may be the only (or at least most) "attractive" player on their roster.

Even though JR's outside shot wasnt falling against LA, he was getting to the rack at will and absolutely tearing Kobe "ALL NBA Defensive Team" Bryant to shreds. Inside the 3 point line he was shooting 76% and getting to the line at will and scoring incredibly efficiently. I REALLY think the right move for Philly is to go after JR.

It's a no-brainer in my opinion. We NEED a natural scorer on this roster. Outside of Lou Williams, we have none. I'm fine with sliding Iguodala over to SG but having a player like JR Smith backing him up would be ideal. However, the reason I wanted to trade Miller to Denver for JR and their pick is because I really would like to add another 1st round pick this year. We need a PF and there are several slated to be available between 15 and 20. Picking up a PF/C tweener like Speights with a post up game with our 16th pick and a more fluid, athletic PF in the Josh Smith mold with their 20th would be a great move to solidify the 4 spot - and could potentially allow us to keep our cap cash until a player that we really like becomes available down the road. Trading Miller to Denver for JR and their pick gets us our SG while also giving us an insurance pick at the 4. And if DiLeo and Co. think they have us a real deal PF with our 16th pick, then they can use the 20th pick on the best available player, perhaps a PG or backup 5 with some girth.

Agree we need a natural scorer, as opposed to Iggy who works hard as heck to generate offense for himself, but disagree vehemently that JR Smith is that guy. He is a streaky shooter, one dimensional with a loser mentality who put up big numbers, at times, in an offense only system. I would much prefer a guy like Mike Miller who can score and shoot with more consistency and less attitude (although majorly bad hair) or maybe Barbosa from the Suns. I am all for picking a high upside guy like Speights at 16 as a developmental PF, but why worry about getting Denver's pick at 20 when you can usually buy a first rounder a few spots later and still grab a back-up center type like Robin Lopez. I like that the team has emphasized picking up high character players and think it's too early in the rebuilding process to start taking chances on bad chemistry guys like JR Smith.

I dont know where exactly JR got this "bad chemistry" label. He got in a car wreck, a fight at a bar, and benched in the playoffs for bad shot selection and all of a sudden he has some silly "cancer" label.

This franchise lived with that same "silly 'cancer' label" for the past decade with a much more talented player than Smith. He may not be guilty in a court of law, but he has to mature out of that label, and will be handled very cautiously by this league until he proves everyone wrong.
If he gets benched for bad shot selection, is that a good thing?

Lets put it thi way: Josh smith is almost as guilty of having "bad character" as JR Smith, but half you guys cream your pants over him.

JR Smith would not be a good pickup. Yes, he's talented and can shoot you into games. Unfortunately, he can shoot you out of games too and plays pretty crappy D. I would look to see if other gunners are available. Maybe Barbosa, who did not have a good playoffs this year for the Suns.
As for Randolph, yes, he would be alright here. However, he really needs to lose some weight and get his head on straight. If he did that, NY would want to keep him. If I were GM, I would pass on him and see who could be available. One player that hasn't been mentioned thus far is Krstic from New Jersey. Stephanski knows him and he could be had for cheap as he's still recovering from the knee operation. If he's healthy, he can really contribute.
