OT- Ways to deal with flopping

Post#1 » by thefranchise2k5 » Wed May 14, 2008 12:29 am

We all know flopping is ever present in the league (Manu, Varejao, Hamilton), what are some serious ways (okay I wanna hear some funny ones too) to go about addressing this issue.

Real ideas

1.) Add a fourth ref- There needs to be another ref that can see different angles of a play. So many calls are made based on the reaction and not on the initial cause of a foul and this other ref can help to look for the true reason a foul occurs.

2.) Add a point system for the refs- After every game, the league watches it and the refs get a point for every flop that was missed or called the wrong way. And after they reach a certain number of points, they are suspended or fined. Yes, it's hard to define a flop, but this at least would scare the refs into making the right calls.

Funny ideas
1.) Humiliation- every player that is found to have flopped based upon review will be forced to wear a scarlet F on their jersey (like Jeff Van Gundy said should happen). Also the league should release a DVD called the NBA's best flops with narration by Marv Albert like he did with the blooper tapes.

2.) Castrated- every player found to have flopped will be castrated because they have no balls.

I like humiliation. Make those floppers wear a big old set of bunny ears for their next game.

lol yeah, when I'm playing and someone flops I make sure his next meeting with the grass is not due to a flop.

I've got a bad history with yellow/red cards though :\

Give them a REASON to flop.

counterflop.

i remember a game earlier in the season (it might've been last season) where shaq "lost his balance" after getting tangled up with a player who tried to draw a charge on him ( i think it was joel pryzbilla).

anyway, the punchline of it is that shaq falls down on pryzbilla and pryzbilla ends up getting the ball rammed into his face as shaq attempts to break his fall.

Watch some WNBA games this summer. They really don't like flopping. The refs just ignore it. The commentators point out every flop with disgust. Also, I am sure you have to hit a WNBA player a lot harder to get a foul than works in the NBA. It's just a matter of what the league wants. The NBA does not object to flopping. If they ever decide they don't want it, the refs will get their instructions and flops will be ignored.

A testicle removed for each flop. That would stop it...

NBA Rules

Flopping:

When a coach files an accusation of flopping with the officials against a player of the opposing team, the accused player and a member of the accusing coach's team shall engage in a "flop-off." The referee will lightly touch each participant on the chest. Whomever is able to flop the longest distance gains posession of the ball for his team.

NOTE: Manu Ginobli, Raja Bell and Chris Bosh are allowed to participate in one "flop-off" per calendar week.

I have no problem with flopping as long as they play neat sound effects as they do it.

David Stern won't allow it. The "loud rap music" may hurt his ears.
