ECF: Detriot Pistons vs Boston Celtics/Cleveland Cavaliers

Post#1 » by MonstaGame05 » Wed May 14, 2008 6:48 am

Ok I know I`m early but I just want to make this thread but do the Pistons finally get back to the Finals or do either King James or the best team in the NBA deliver the death blow to the semi dynasty?

If you're going to try and gank TL's spot, at least spell things correctly.

DetRIOT pisses off Pistons fans.

Coming into the post-season I picked the C's in 6. Here is the dirty lil secret nobody talks about; the Pistons can't score against elite defensive teams.

Our team concept absolutely destroys the Phoenix's and Golden States of the world. It's ridiculously easy to expose their inane defensive schemes. Even against average or above average teams the Pistons are usually able to take advantage of mismatches or miscues and find the open man.

But against elite defensive teams, with sound defensive principles the Pistons really struggle to score. Those easy looks they usually generate don't come against teams with crisp rotations so everything is a grind. And since they don't generate a lot of easy looks either in transition or off the offensive glass they often struggle to score even 80 points. This is where their lack of a superstar player capable of consistently breaking down the defense or generating a double team really hurts them. There is nobody who can really take over the game offensively.

All of that said the Celts look far more beatable than they did a few weeks ago and the Pistons bench, and coaching have been a pleasant surprise. IF they can continue to get contributions from guys like Stuckey & Maxiell then we'll have a good series. But Sheed is also going to need to play big and Chauncey can't allow Rondo to do his best Boobie Gibson impersonation.

Right now I think it's a bit of a toss up, but depending on the rest of that Clev/Bos series go I might change my mind. Hell, Cleveland could still pull it off. But we'll see. Right now I'm just thankful for the rest Chauncey and the rest of the team are receiving.

I picked Celts in 6 if we were to meet but I might have to re-think that one.

I picked Cavs to beat Celts though, so we'll have to see how that works out.

Gotta love that Boston wit.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Congrats to the Pistons on a 6th straight consecutive ECF appearance. They are currently 2-3 in the previous appearances, so they are due for a finals appearance to even up the record.

Against Boston, I'd pick Boston in 6, unless the Celtics road woes continue against the Cavs. Then I'll pick Boston in 7.

Against the Lebrons, I'll pick the Pistons in 6, unless Lebron averages 40+ ppg in the final games against the Celts. Then it's a tossup because Lebron can even up the odds by himself when he plays out of his mind.

If Lebron beats the Pistons again and goes to the NBA Finals does that put him on equal footing with the current Eastern Confrence DET run?
