yes, but magic, shaq, jordan aren't in the same level of TD, the first 3 are top 10 player of all time. TD ISN'T.

in fact, i can prove that dirk is better than TD scientifically:

X=constant+ dummy variable of number of rings + b * playoff stats + c* regular season record + d* teammates talents + e *stats of the regular seaon + f * career stats + g * (+/- cote) + h * manu effect

and you will see that the Dirk's X value is >>>>>>>> DUNCAN'S.
What in the world? :o

The OP is right about one thing, Gregg Popovich really is the best coach in the league. If the COY award actually went to the best coach of the year, it would go to Pop every season. Instead it either goes to the coach of "the most surprise team" or "the most overachieving team".

those awards are meaningless, awards lost its credits since the middle of 90's.

goat:manu wrote:stats wise, duncan was never a top 5 players of the last decade. people said he's the best player, is only spurs had 4 rings. in this argument, we can put RUSSELS>SHAQ and wilt, which i think that shaq and wilt are >>>>>>Russels.

Another basketball fan downgrading Russell's accomplishments. 55 straight wins and two NCAA Championships in San Fransisco. Could you tell me who his teammates were? K.C. Jones is one that comes to mind, and there was one teammate that was drafted in the first round. The only times Russell didn't win a Championship was when he was injured and playing against a 68-win Philadelphia team. Wilt didn't play well in the clutch and that's why he won so little, and Shaq certainly wouldn't be considered as good as Russell. You can make an argument for Jordan, Bird, Magic, and Kareem, but that's all.

Has he been lucky to have great player, yes but so what. A lot of coaches have had great players and never won squat.

The kings in 02 were more talented than the lakers, in 04 the spurs had more talent than the lakers, 98 the jazz were as talented as the bulls.

He pushes his team to levels no other coach has been able to in the last 30 years. Four times a Jackson coached team has won 67+ games, nine championships, ten finals appearances. That's not a coincident.

Jordan was a little better than great. He's shown these last few years how much he needs talent. The difference is Auerbach would have put a great team around Kobe, while Jackson is completely clueless as far as recognizing talent and only looks great because of great circumstances. My understanding is that Tex Winter is the one who brought the triangle offense to Jackson's teams, so I'd be very curious to see what Jackson could do without superstars and without Tex as his assistant.
