I think you really have bought into the fact Beasley will play like a big in the post.Flash3 wrote:I beg to differ with this quote.''You take Rose because the game is becoming increasingly guard oriented,'' one team's scouting director said. ``Guards who have that combination of speed and power have increasing impact in the league. And if Miami doesn't take Rose, they will continue to have a huge point guard problem. They can do without a great power forward more than a great point guard.''
When you have such players as a Rasheed Wallace, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, and other big men alike, and the attention they garner, the game comes easier for others around them. But, with some of the better PGs in the league you can say the same, but what have Nash and Kidd, for arguments sake done.
I know it's a weak statement, but I'd rather have the better big man than the better PG, unless we're speaking about an elite PG in the mold of a Jason Kidd/Steve Nash to go alongside a complete team....
He might be a fastbreak big, like Kenyon Martin. But he might not be able to stablish a post presense in half court set that he had in College, like Duncan does in the NBA. The guy is not that big for the NBA game, besides his hands that might be his saving grace, but he is not a good passer to really taka advantage of playing a consistent post game with the Pros. .
You only get a once in a lifetime shot at a guy like Rose.
If we get the number one, am sure we will get him.

Ok, this draft mock sucks, not on positions, but on their HOF %. Apparently Rose is 80% likely to be in the hall of fame, and Beasley is 75% likely. Even Jerryd Bayless is 40%, or almost even money to be a HOF PG. It's laughable.

Its interesting that out of the teams left standing they all have some sort of elite post player (all former or current allstars)
Pau (Former allstar)
Boozer (Allstar)
KG (Allstar)
Zydrunas (Former allstar)
Sheed (Allstar)
David West (Allstar)
We almost made it to the finals the first year of the Shaq trade with Damon Jones as our pg

Other than maybe KG, if you had the opportunity to pick between Chris Paul and any of those players; who would you take?
Shaq like Tim Duncan are unique players. Shaq contributions his first two years cannot be compared to his last two. Damon made it by because of Wade's up and coming game and Shaq's almost MVP season. Even then it was clear that we needed MORE from that position hence the trade for JWill.
Don't fool yourself, the NBA has turned into a perimeter game. There are very few Post presence players that are worth franchise status or anything close to it. IMO a post presence should be a #1 priority. My only concern with Beasley besides his maturity level is his size. If matched against the players you mentioned above, is he going to hold his own?
With Rose you automatically get a 6'3 PG who is bigger and faster than the elite PG in the league already. Physically you have someone who can dominate his position with his size and eventually let his play catch up to his talents. Does Beasley offers the same immediate upside?
I think that in either case you get an All Star for years, I just like Rose's position better but I wouldn't want to be the one who passed on Beasley if he dominates like his talent says he should.

Im sure thats a great consolation prize to Golden State who couldnt even make the playoffs with an elite perimeter backcourt.
Miami isn't that close to what Golden State has right now, and I don't see them building a team comprised almost exclusively of perimeter players.
By the way, Wade is a top five talent in the league, and Rose is potentially one of the best points to come out recently. If both reach potential then you have a much better backcourt than GS. Wade/Rose could be comparable to Jordan while Baron/Ellis could be compared to Jerry Stackhouse. There's a big difference in talent between the two, but both are talented. That's something you have to take into account before making gross statements.

So you dare to compare Beasley's efficiency by naming players such as KG and Boozer to prove your point but the mere mention of Rose and Chris Paul in the same sentence throws the argument out the window? How convenient.
If you want to get technical NOBODY really knows how ANY of these college players are going to develop but at least I gave you VERY valid arguments on why I think Rose has a better chance of becoming a dominating force at his position as opposed to Beasley who at 6'9 235lbs is much smaller than any of the Power Forwards you mentioned. I think today he is more of a big SF like Carmelo Anthony
Can Beasley get bigger to play PF full time? Sure, but you are looking at a couple of years of hard work at the gym and a change in his style of play as opposed to Rose who comes in with the size and speed advantage over most elite PG's in this league, drives to the hoop with no fear to create for others or even score himself, has the proven court vision of an elite floor general and his most noticeable flaw is his improving jump shot that might be the most fixable skill in basketball.
We are not trying to create a 50% Jason Kapono-type shooter but a steady Chris Paul-like 40% from 3pt.
Beasley is going to be more than alright. He might be a 20-10 guy in this league one day but I am not sure he is going to be that player this year or next or even the year after that. He still needs to work on his body and develop. He might even play SF for the rest of his career. You see where I am getting at? We just don't know. The reward could eb HUGE but there are several question marks as well.
Rose offers equal amounts of rewards with a more NBA-ready game IMO. I would still be happy with either one on my team just looking at it from the "who fits best" perspective.

my take:
while rose is not a great shooter, hes not that bad..the point is that it is not high stregnth and we need that IMO as we lack shooting
BEASLEY IS 6'10, not 6'9...he is 6'9 and 3 quarters which is good for 6'10...not to mention a huge wingspan...he also has good bulk and can get even stronger...to me hes like a stronger, more athletic dirk with less shooting

Im not comparing Beasley efficiency to any player but stating that he would be the best post player on this team from day one and give this team a balance inside outside attack we are lacking. Hes 6'9 still growing and because of his athletic ability can play sf part time, there is no question hes a pf. Thats like questioning is Rose a pg or a sg?
On day one would Rose be a better passer than Wade? Is taking the ball out of Wade's hands, robing him of his ability to create shots for others a good thing?
Rose/Wade/Marion we become the Wizards/Nets II No post presence at all= no chance in the playoffs. If we miss out on Beasley then of course i want Rose but if we have the luxury to get the first pick then Beasley makes more sense.
With Rose if he lives up to his potential + Wade (if he plays without the ball in his hands thus taking away what makes him special) give this team an elite backcourt with no post presence similar to Golden State.

I like Rose..but what do you guys expect from him statistically? Cause from the looks of it people are expecting too much from him as a rookie.
And size is not a problem for Beasley...guy has long arms...just look at Boozer..look at all the new PFs theyre all 6-8, 6-9. Hes played vs. taller players against Kansas, Wisconsin, Texas AM and had no problem.
Beasley and Marion are gonna put us back on top rebounding..if you guys watched this season, youll know how important rebounding is for this team.
