CDR??? Who is he??? How good is he???? Where will he go???
Excuse me for my college hoops knowlege is pretty poor. I am a Raptors fan and have noticed a lot of ppl saying we should consider him with the 17th pick. However I was floored yesterday when the RealGM mock draft came out and had him going in the second round.
Obviously I need to know more about this guy as I am really confused to see that he is all over the draft board so drasticly from early first round to mid second round. How could anyone justify taking him at 17 if he is een by the majority to be a second rounder?

He is all over the board because he is so unique as both a player and an athlete, hard to draw comparisons and safely translate his game onto the next level. His stiff hips slow him down laterally and in his first step and cause me concern regarding his wing isolation scoring ability (go back and watch him when stuck on the perimeter with Rush guarding him in the title game, a good % of the time he had nothing he could do). However, his unique herky jerky lefty style causes his defender to be off balance quite often. Also, his improving jump shot helps matters. But the thing that sticks out most is his vast array of release points as he attacks the rim or with his back to the basket. In this regard, he is not so much a pure shooter as he is a scorer with a natural feel for finding a way to get the ball in the basket. Strength concerns make me doubt the transition of the post game that he shows but if he is able to play the 2 spot (huge defensive doubts at the 2 athletically) that would help due to his advantage in length at that position. I question though if he is truly 6-7 (looks more 6-5). His handle is secure but is WAY overrated in that it lacks creativity and is voided by his first step imo. Currently, I have him rated on a big board setting (no team needs considered) as a 25-30 pick....in general though, his production at Memphis was considerable and might get him a higher pick than he might deserve

He would fit really well with the Raptors because the shooters will be a big concern and will spread the floor making it easier for him to operate and drive into the lane where he is so dangerous. Only problem is some feel his lack of athleticism and just his style of play in general will not let him be as successful on this level as he was in college. I am not one of those people though. If he has good workouts this pick could be a real possibility. Right now I see him going to the Magic a few picks later for the same reasons as the Raptors.

He looks tall to me, seemed to be one of the tallest SGs in college. I would not be surprised at all if he was roughly 6'7" in shoes. Looks like he has a long wingspan too. He has an unconventional style - reminds me of a sort of SG version of Antawn Jamison. He's a solid slasher, with a good crossover and spin move, and despite how weird his shot looks, it often goes in. I could see him being a semi-steal of the draft, especially if he goes in the late first/early second.

I see what you're getting at with the somewhat ackward and seemingly sloppy athleticism and the overrated handle.......but with that said, CDR is a superior player as compared to Hodge
assuming I am reading into your opinion regarding Hodge correctly, I too was floored at how high he went (makes you wonder about these pro evaluators sometimes)

Don't forget, Hodge was shot in his rookie season I believe. You never know what kind of career he may have had. Not saying he would have been a significant player in the league, but you just never know with these things.
Having said that, CDR is a superior prospect to what Julius Hodge was IMO.

It should also be noted, that regarding Hodges draft position, he tested out quite strongly in the physical portion of the combine. IIRC he was the fastest in the lateral agility test that year ... He was drafted at 20 in the 2005 draft, which wasn't the strongest. I didn't think it was that bad of a pick, personally, I had been hoping for him at 28 for SA...

Whoever said CDR reminded them of a SG version of Antawn Jamison is pretty dead on IMO. His craftiness around the bucket and his little flicks at the basket are what cause comparison to Jamison. I don't feel he will ever be as good as Jamison is though
I think he will struggle with the quickness of the NBA, and superior defenders on the wings, and his ability to be herky-jerky will not overcome those deficiencies

To me the guy plays like Stephen Jackson. tough defender and fearless offensively. He's tough as nails and not afraid to take THE shot.
6'7" now and probably stays fairly thin. He doesn't look like Stack Jack, but has the same type of mentality.

That may be the worst player comparison ever. I thought Julius Hodge was a ridiculously obvious bust for a long time before the 2005 draft, and I've liked CDR as a prospect since he was a freshman. I'd never defend a player who remotely resembled Julius Hodge's style of game. CDR didn't shoot 25 percent from 3 and release his shot from his belly button. Hodge also played like he had long, slow legs. CDR is built lower to the ground and has some semblance of foot quickness at least. CDR knows how to use his body to shield defenders, and rises up over them in post up. That wasn't really part of Hodge's repertoire. Most importantly, CDR's instincts are also to play with a scorer's mentality, like a 2/3 should. Hodge thought he was a point guard trapped in a swingman's body. Every time he got the ball he was trying to penetrate off the dribble, which he was incapable of against NBA guards.
