Did anyone see John Denton mention Luol Deng as a possible free agent aquisition?...And can anyone tell me what exactly is he smoking?

Freakin' awesome thread, Neon1. You really know what you're talking about here. I'm not much for the college game so I don't know much about these guys, but it has me getting a little excited for the draft (for the first time since drafting Dwight).

Just reading about Chris Douglas-Roberts has me surprised that he's within our pick range. It makes me think this draft must be deep or something.

If I have to choose between Pietrus, Childress, and Maggz, I'd take Pietrus. He's got more upside and seems to fit the need better. We've already got Childress if we keep Evans and I don't think Maggz would take less money and accept being the 4th option in the starting lineup (if we were just sliding him into Mo's current spot).

I will add Duhon to my list. He seems like a very solid back-up pg. Who doesn't make mistakes and plays defense. Exactly what we need for back-up PG.

 Awesome thread! I think you hit it on the head as to what the Magic need and want in the draft and free agency. Lets hope Otis pulls a rabbit out of his hat...

I really believe the way to go is...

-Draft a big man. I can't imagine drafting a big man and them failing under the training of Dwight & Pat.

-Sign a vet PG. There is no chance of us going anywhere without veteran leadership at the PG spot.

- Use the MLE+JJ+2nd Round Pick or something along those lines in a sign & trade for Childress.

-Resign Dooling & Evans. Both provide energy and defense. You get what you expect from both players.

After that....

-Hope Tony is 100% and stays that way.

-Hope Hedo can repeat his awesome season.

-Hope Dwight keeps progressing.

-Hope Jameer can play all season like he did in the playoffs.

If all of those things come together...I believe that spells an NBA Championship.

PG Nelson/Dooling/Vet
SG Childress/Evans/Dooling
SF Turkoglu/Lewis/Childress
PF Lewis/Gortat/Cook
C Howard/Battie/Draftie

Basically an 8 man rotation of Nelson, Dooling, Childress, Evans, Turk, Lewis, Gortat, Dwight, & Battie

There are so many directions this team can go this offseason that I am not even going to worry about it until we get an actual idea of managment's plans. We are gonna be better next year even as presently constructed but additions will be needed to get us to the next level and replace some of our expiring contracts.

I just hope we really don't screw up this year's draft. If we end up with a productive draft, then I'll be confident it our offseason plans.

Nice research, Neon. On needs, though, I would add athleticism and/or speed. They always were getting beat down the court and beat to the rebounds that Dwight couldn't get at the rim.

You may get all of the above. In particular, each path is reasonable and complementary.

I agree with most of that. However, I think there could be a problem signing a vet PG who can provide leadership at that spot. I know that Otis is a fan of Jameer, but I think one of the reasons that the Magic locked him up when they did is this really isn't a good free-agent class for point guards and the Magic seriously risked losing all three of the ones they had in this offseason if they had not done so.

what we need ths summer is dwight to improve to 80% FT (ala bosh)

-get battie back

-draft the BPA (maybe use JJ to move up)

-sign Duhon with part of MLE

-resign Evans and dooling

-see if we can get fran to come here for a learning year(won t get much PT anyway)

nelson,duhon,dooling
evans,bogans,JJ
hedo,lewis,bogans
lewis,battie,cook,fran
howard,battie,gortat,foyle

THE MAIN thing is to keep our core player together and make sure Howard isn't a FT liability anymore.

PD:could anyone find that video where he was hiting hundreds of FT in a row

Ill add unrestricted free agents Chris Duhon, Kwaaaaame Brown and a couple of the top americans overseas that fit the mold like Marcus Haislip and Mike Vick Jr...athleticism is a big must also....I'm going to keep updating with more available players that fit the mold.

I REALLY WANT Lester Hudson somehow Someways..IMO theres more guys available in the latter round that fit our mold

Thief mentioned - Javaris Crittendon ....Now that would be awesome! Would he start with Jameer or instead of him?

Love the thread Neon! Although I'm suprised you didn't mention the Kelenna kid from Golden State.

I don't like pietrus...If nellie won't play him, will Stan????

Francisco Elson might also be a nice pickup for us as well...
