I think we differing definitions of what a thug is ...

AI and Melo to start off with should be there.

Pierce & Zo. Wallace is better categorized as a mentally unstable player.

Melo should be there. You've already got S Jackson.

When I think of thug I think of off-court not on-court.

I don't follow players personal lives much unless it makes head-lines.

I guess my definition of a thug and you guys are totally different. Zo wouldn't be a thug, when was the last time that dude got in trouble. He's a class act. Here's my all thug team.

Melo
Stephen Jackson
Ron Artest
Stephon Marbury
Allen Iverson

And on a totally different front...My all-class team

C: Dwight Howard
PF: Tim Duncan
SF: Shane Battier
SG: Dwayne Wade
PG: Derek Fisher
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I'm pretty sure the OP was talking about on-court thugs, which is a much more interesting question.

Just put the Nuggets down for the all thug team. They got AI, Melo, JR Smith, Anthony Carter, and Kenyon Martin.

So is there a difference between a THUG and a GOON?

I think of GOONS as wanna be tough guys that lack in skill and try to make up for it in PHYSICALITY.

So would a THUG just be someone of low character that seems to find his way into trouble often?

PUNKS IMO are those that do something and then run away from their
actions. Like the Melo punch last year against the Knicks (?). Punks won't man up and are prone to taking cheapshots. There are several of them in the NBA.

I always thought of Nate as a punk ... I might have to rethink that ...

I don't think Theo Ratliff, Baron Davis, Robert Horry and Zaza Pachulia are 'thugs', to be honest.

I'd definitely put Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson on the list, though. Zach Randolph too probably.

The first thing I thought of here was who fouled the most. So I looked it up:

1) Mikki Moore at 3.8 PFPG (310 total fouls)
2) Shaquille O'Neal at 3.7 PFPG (228 total fouls)
3) Amare Stoudemire at 3.7 PFPG (294 total fouls)

Dwight's 9th at 274 total and 3.3 PFPG

So, fouling alone is not goonish I guess.

....

So, how about flagrant fouls:
Matt Barnes at 5
Kenyon Martin, Lamar Odom, Jamaal Tinsley all at 3.

Still not a total indicator of goonishness.

..;...

The best indicators appear to be both ejections and technical fouls.

Baron Davis, Rasheed Wallace, Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, Ron Artest, and Chris Kaman can be seen high on these lists.

But who is the leader?
It's Mr. MVP Kobe Bryant. He got 15 Technical and 2 ejections. And is this year's most goonish player. Interesting, as this is not media nor fan perceived.

Return to Orlando Magic
