Rondo's a great player. KG helped make him great. This doesn't mean Rondo would drop off if KG left, but he was a very important part in Rondo's growth.Undrafted Rook wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
Why not give credit to Rondo for upping his game? Why not credit the coach C's brought in to coach defense? I like KG too but come on now...
My Starting 5:
PG: Allen Iverson
SG: Paul Pierce
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Kevin Garnett

It's true KG is overrated by most Celtics fans. He simply gets too much credit.
Pierce could always play defense. The challenge has always been getting him to play hard the entire game.
Out of the big 3 i think he's had the least impact on Rondo's over all game. Ray's the one who should get the credit.
The team having a great defense probably has just as much to do with players over-all effort, and Tom Thibideau's coaching as KG. This is one area where he does deserve a lot of credit for though.

Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

People need to calm down with this nonsense about KG made Rondo better. I could've sworn at the beginning of the season announcers were talking about how the guy who really helped Rondo with his shot among other things were Ray Allen. Remember this team added Ray Allan and KG not just KG. They also added one of the best defensive coaches in the league. KG helps but if he was that good Minnesota would've been making the playoffs out west alot more often. He's a really good player but he's not this once in a lifetime player people are trying to make him out to be.

Didn't know pointing out actual facts like Ray Allan helped Rondo with his shot and the Celtics hired one of the best defensive coaches in the league was stupid. Instead of just saying KG made the team better even though over the course of his career all the evidence is there to show that he has never been able to carry a team. If facts are stupid than I can see why people make such outrageous statements on this board. Like saying the Celtics improvements is mostly due to KG when he's never been able to carry and a team and he's been playing with two other all stars. When are Allan and Pierce gonna get some credit.

Rondo has improved drastically. He plays very smart and with a lot of confidence. His shot has improved. He's still a damn good defender. Rondo gets a lot of his confidence and attitude from KG. You can see it when they play. Also the reason Paul doesn't have to spend all his energy on offense is anymore has a lot due with KG. KG has taken the pressure off of Paul, that allows Pierce to play more freely on offense and defense. That is making your team mates. From top to bottom the celtics are damn good defenders(except for a few). That is because KG has instilled this defensive mentality into the team, and completely made everyone elevate their game. Now maybe you're gonna tell me KG is an overrated defender....
I believe Rondo improved by a lot simply though getting used to the NBA and having entered his second year. Kinda like Deron Williams went from a 10 and 4.5 to a 16 and 10 average his sophmore year or Roy from 16-4-4 to 19-5-5. There's a lot of examples of second year players improving over their rookie seasons. Now I'm sure KG helped him somewhat, but to give him the credit for Rondo is a disservice to Rondo himself.
Pierce has been the same player he's been all these years. But since KG came, he doesn't need to score as much as before to win, so he can spend more energy on D or other parts of the game (being all intense yo). For all his improvements on D, his scoring average has also dropped from 25 to 19 a game, which leads me to believe that he hasn't improved due to KG but rather focused on other parts of the game. If KG would leave after this season Pierce would go back to scoring more but playing lesser D. Not because he forgot it or is not as good, but because there's only so much energy the guys have and they have to prioritize it on when to spend it.

Hey, you kinda just gave KG credit^^
Have you maybe somewhat looked at just KG the player and can actually see the good in him?
Are you turning to the darkside a bit? Netsforce is gonna be crushed.

Basketball is all about matchups. The Cavs' defense did very well against Boston this season, while some very good teams(the Lakers, for instance) struggled against Boston's offense. As a Celtics fan, I feared the Wizards to a degree, but I fear the Cavs as much as anybody. Records go out of the window and matchups should be the issue when the playoffs start.
