Funny how Childress + Acie were brought up. Last off-season, there was a rumor (I'm not sure if it holds any water though) that the Hawks offered Childress and the 11th pick for Jose, which Colangelo denied. So in the present, I think that Jose has upped his value quite a bit considering his near All-star season, hence any trade discussions regarding Calderon has to start higher that Childress plus Law imo.
Both sides seems to be going back & forth about hoe TJ is worth more to Raps fans and vice versa with Hawks fans (same applies to Marvin). Why don't we just come to a middle ground and say that TJ Ford for Marvin Williams is fair enough. Fillers from either/both sides to make the salaries match? Because I just believe such a trade improves both teams - we have one more PG than we really need and Atlanta has many swingmen.
Thanks for letting me get my 0.02 cents on your board!
Jose!

Aside from Marvin's mother, I'm probably his most ardent supporter. But I'd probably say yes to that trade, only because we so desperately need a PG who can create.
But, with Calderon giving him the ball and Bosh taking doubleteams down low, Marvelous would explode. In 2 years, y'all'd have posters coming over here just to laugh at us for letting him go (and with our luck, it'd be with Ford in a wheelchair, no longer able to play).

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Naw, I think it'll be a win-win for both teams. I do believe that Marvin could become the Raptors' second option. And everyone knows that we need that slashing wing!
Let's not get too overly pessimistic. I foresee that Hawks being an exciting up-tempo team with TJ running the show! The problem Ford has on the Raps is that no one can keep up with him. I wouldn't be too worried about Ford getting knocked out & retiring, Horford will be on his team this time (just kidding)!

Don't forget, TJ was a fairly high lottery pick in what might go down as the second best draft of all time - its not like he didn't come into the league with promise and potential just like Starvin'.
As of now, I see Marv's absolute upside as a fantastic role player but not a super star mainly because he doesn't have any point-forward characteristics and his offensive repetoire isn't so diverse that he can score on anyone - he has the jumper and the straight-line drive. I'd be upset if he reached that upside - replete with sick D and a 3pt. shot - and he wasn't here, but I wouldn't feel terrible about trading him to improve the team because I don't see "star" in him like Joe/Josh.

Sorry, but I did not hear anything about a Childress+11th for Jose last year.
There was a rumor about Childress for Calderon, and one with Childress+11th for Calderon+Graham+09'first.
And there was also a rumor that Hawks management refused one offer.
So saying that Calderon offer should start at more than Childress+Law because of that won't work, even if I agree on the fact that Calderon has improved his value (being for me higher than Childress last year, and higher than what some Raptor's fans where thinking at this time

me personally i'm not ready to give up on marvin , i mean the guy is only 21 and is improving each year , i say we keep him till the trade deadline and re-evaluate our team as a whole , i mean bibby could turn things around and/or marvin could explode.
I just don't want another tracy mcgrady incident , someone take a look at his 4th year when he was traded from toronto to orlando.
if we play our cards right , we should wait anyway because there is a little something brewing in toronto about jose wanting to start , and toronto could be forced to trade TJ or Jose which will drive down the value slightly.

One of them will be moved, just need to see what teams will offer and try to plug some holes. A TJ/Marv swap would be preferable for me, I realize Toronto would need to add some sweeteners though.

Like I said, it was a rumor, and I don't know if it was true or not. What we do know is that Jose has higher value right now and he's worth more than Childress. So let's just leave it at that for now because the Toronto management is probably looking to ship Ford instead of Calderon so there's more point to looking at possible trades involving TJ instead. But thank you for your info on such other rumors.

the way i see it

marvin << jose

The difficulty in evaluating Marvin is that "potential" factor and with TJ is "will he get injured again." Nonetheless, salaries need to be matched for this trade to work out, so how about something along the lines of:
TJ Ford + Joey Graham for Marvin Williams?
