Mike Conley to Sac (Assuming you guys get Rose)

Post#1 » by OVechKiN » Thu May 15, 2008 5:46 pm

What would it take?
Our 1st '08 + Both 2nds we own.
+ Quincy Douby + Shelden Williams
or one of John Salmons / Francisco Garcia
Any thoughts?

Good idea but we'd need to get something higher than 12 I think for Conley.

I think most posters were very lukewarm to acquiring Shelden Williams.

So it will become more difficult if he is not apart of the equation.

The 2008 first rounder is a given but with long term money invested in John Salmons and Kevin Martin already, coupled with the likelihood of resigning Ron Artest or some form of a sign and trade, the ability to resign Francisco Garcia may be cost prohibitive.

2008 1st rounder and Francisco Garcia for Conley should do it.

You are right but he did mention both second round picks. If Sac agree to something like that, I would be all over it. I think there would be someone there we could use. And depending on their choices in the second round, we would definitely come out the winners in this situation.

IF we draft Rose, I think Conley is expendable...

1st round + Garcia + filler for Conley and Cardinal should be enough...

Personally I wasn't really thrilled with what Sacramento had to offer for Lowry, let alone for Conley. However, assuming the Grizz get Rose, and the Knicks remain at 5-8...

*Memphis Sends:
Mike Conley to Sacramento
Brian Cardinal to Sacramento
Hakim Warrick to New York
Pick #28 to New York
*Memphis Receives:
Francisco Garcia from Sacramento
Malik Rose from New York
Pick #12 from Sacramento
Pick #5-8 from New York

*Sacramento Sends:
Francisco Garcia to Memphis
Ron Artest to New York
Pick #12 to Memphis
*Sacramento Receives
Mike Conley from Memphis
Brian Cardinal from Memphis
David Lee from New York

*New York Sends:
David Lee to Sacramento
Malik Rose to Memphis
Pick #5-8 to Memphis

Ron Artest from Sacramento
Hakim Warrick from Memphis

I think Conley is expendable whether we draft Rose or not. Personally, I like this trade because we would be able to stockpile some draft picks in return for an overhyped point guard with injury concerns. Still, I feel that we should set our sights on next year's draft- and specifically Ricky Rubio- for the future of our point guard position.

Yeah, I want this guy as our franchise player. He is going to be a star and next year is a prime opportunity to nab him. It's too bad the world is going to end in 2012 lol.

Rubio isn't the only PG in that draft.

Brandon Jennings will be the best to come out of that class.

I like the idea jman.

Two quick points:

First, shouldn't Blake Griffin of Oklahoma be the prize in 2009? I was personally disappointed he decided to return to school this year as he would fit perfectly with the Grizz.

Secondly, what does that say about Mike Conley as one of our franchise cornerstones or building blocks if every single year we are ready to jettison him to another team if we get the opportunity to draft the point guard of tomorrow?

Maybe he is just a cornerstone by default as we don't have much above average talent aside from Rudy Gay?

You were spot on with the last question. Mike Conley is not on the level of a Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings, or a Ricky Rubio despite his position in the draft.

I say remove the #28 pick from this deal. Its still a fair deal for NY.

Then we draft

D. Rose
E. Gordon
J. Mcgee
J.Dorsey

Thats a 4 starter draft:

D. Rose/Lowry/Crittendon
E.Gordon/Miller/Crittendon
Gay/Miller
Dorsey/Lee/Rose
Mcgee/Darko/Collins

One more good draft and FA signings and we'll be back in the playoffs in another year. Coach I has a hustle team with an enforcer.
