Story behind certain jersey numbers?
I believe most jersey numbers worn by certain players have some sort of significance. What are your fav stories? I'll start:
Arenas wears 0 because that was the amount of minutes he was believed to get.
TD wears 21 to honor his older cousin, who was a college baller with nr. 21 and inspired TD to play basketball.
Dirk wears 41 because he wore 14 as a youth (as a kid, he liked Charles Barkley, who wore 14 in the Dream Team) and the 14 was blocked by Robert Pack when he joined the Mavs, so he reversed the digits, thus 41.

That Nicka wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
He wore 24 in High school...
He wore number 8 because D'Antoni was his favorite player and that was his number
That doesn't explain the switch......
McGrady was once in a basketball camp (I think it was) where he wore one of those pinny things that have numbers (like marathon runners) and they gave him a really high number like 7** and McGrady originally thought it was like a ranking thing. So now he wears #1.

Lebron James wears #23 because he can't be unique and wants to be jordan.
Jason Kidd wore #32 which represented triple-double [3 and 2]
Dennis Rodman wore #91 on the Bulls because and #73 on the Lakers because when he entered the league he was 19 and when he joined the lakers he was 37 so he switched the numbers...dont know about #10 when he was a spur.
Antawn Jamison wore #4 on the wizards because it was his fourth team [drafted by toronto, GS, Dallas, Wash] and he said his daughter was four years old when he got traded so it was significant.
Anyone know why KG picked 21? Why pip chose 33, why did jordan pick 23? i dont know those stories

This is false. The band Pearl Jam actually picked those numbers for him. They made a deal that they could pick his uniform number if they wrote a song for him. Pearl Jam are known to be huge basketball fans. Their original band name was Mookie Blaylock but had to change it. Their album Ten is also after Mookie Blaylock's jersey number.

That's not why he chose those numbers. He was #10 with Detroit, so he decided to keep that number with the Spurs. When he came to Chicago he couldn't have #10 because it wa retired for Bob Love (I think) so he chose #91 because 9 and 1 makes 10, and because 9 and 1 are the first two numbers you call in an emergency. I'm not sure why he specifically chose 7 and 3 in LA, but they both add up to 10.
