Was Leon Powe cut?
Honestly where was he in a game where we needed a rebounder? Honest question is he hurt or did Doc forget he was on the team?

I was also very disappointed that Powe got no time. He is just one of those guys that gets key rebounds, takes charges, and is a hustler. Baby, while I think he can be a decent player, doesn't have that same knack. He can't get his shot off against the bigger players and apparently can't get a whistle to save his life. Powe has been one of our best players in the playoffs, why would Doc sit him now?

I also think the length of the Cavs makes him a poor fit. Brown is very long, and Baby is so big he can carve out space.
SLOWWWWW defines Perk. Every time KG lays down a nice pass for him and he appears completely open for a dunk he waits a beat, gathers himself, starts to move toward the basket, goes up for the dunk............
and gets absolutely hammered by someone and misses the dunk.
He'll then go to the line and make one of two (rewarding the other team for fouling him). Absolutely maddening.

The Cs have no chance of winning the flag this year, based upon their performance through the first 13 games.
Maybe it was in the cards, because this team needs Ray Allen playing well and draining shots to be effective. When he plays like arguably the worst starting player on any playoff team, the Cs simply cannot defeat a quality team. (He is worse than Wally or Delonte, two of the pieces we just traded for him along with the pick that became Jeff Green.) Especially when Ray is on the floor 40 minutes per game. The Pistons or Lakers or Spurs or Hornets would beat the Cs in 5 or 6 at most.
I write these words with some hesitation becasue I fear Ray Allen may have leukemia or some serious disease, Nothing else can explain how he has gone from his prime to looking like a 40 year old so quickly. This is a criticism of Doc for playing Ray, not Ray.
What has been puzzling, besides the Cassell idiocy, has neen Doc's failure to use Powe and Tony Allen.
The Cs are having trouble getting to the line. That is not Garnett's game, nor Rondo's yet, and Ray Allen can't turn the corner on Wally, so he has become Steve Kerr, Jr., except that Steve Kerr can make open shots.
Two players on the Cs, aside from Pierce, are attackers who get to the line: Leon Powe and Tony Allen. When the offense stagnates, as it has done routinely throughout the playoffs, these are guys who can attack and draw fouls.
Leon Powe was playing huge over the final two months of the season. It seemed all but certain that he would be the first big off the bench throughout the playoffs. He has run into some problems with the length of Atlanta and Cleveland, and Doc has let the world know that Leon misses defensive assignments. Nevertheless, he is a monster in the paint and he finishes inside. He deserved more time. The bottom line is this: the Cs cannot win a title without Leon Powe playing 20 monster minutes per game. Doc needed to ride out the bad games because he needs Leon to win against good teams. Perk, PJ and Big Baby are insufficent to the task as we move deeper into the playoffs, if we move deeper into the playoffs.
We all know Tony Allen's plusses and minuses. He makes bonehead turnovers. You know, the kind Paul Pierce has been making far too often in the 4th quarter: crazy and lazy cross court passes that get intercepted and lead to fasy break "and one" baskets at the other end. Or passes with absurdly high degrees of difficulty that are unnecessary. And Tony also commits stupid fouls.
But Tony Allen also slashes and gets to the rim. He draws fouls. He plays tough defense. He can get out and run and finish. When he is given some rope and playing time and develops a rhythm, he is quite effective. He is not a terrible shooter.
He can be the antidote to the athletic teams that torch the Cs. He deserved 15 minutes per game at the 2 guard. The way Ray is playing, possibly more.
But Tony is not the sort of guy you thrown into a game after having not played for 4 weeks and expect an Eddie House type performace. He needs steady shifts. So Doc has basically rendered him useless by not making a commitment to having him in the rotation. Now that Ray Allen has gone south, that may mean curtains for the Cs playoff chances.
I would go so far as to say that if we lose the Cleveland series, it will be because Doc had not had Tony Allen in the rotation, making mincemeat of Wally at both ends of the floor. And bailing out the offense with slashing drives to the rim.
I have never been on the "Fire Doc" bandwagon that goes up after every loss, but Danny has to be concerned with how the Cs are not effectively utilizing all their weapons and basically playing with one-hand tied behind their backs.

100% agreed. Powe would have slammed those home. It's too bad we have the biggest moron for a coach.
At least Doc the moron finally put House in place of Cassell. Although I'm afraid he'll go to Cassell in game 7 and if we advance, against the Pistons, so Cassell can go shot-for-shot against Billups. UGH!!!

Powe hasn't been able to score in the playoffs, like Baby,(and Pierce), he can be hammered repeatedly down low with no whistle. I certainly think he warrants minutes though.
Yeah, Doc absolutely screwed up not playing Tony Allen at the backup 2. I wouldn't have started him over Ray, but I also wouldn't let Wally torch us for very long before I'd use Tony.
This has been building up for a while.......
What a frickin' moron, Doc is for abandoning the team plan that got us into the playoffs. What a dumb time to play conservative.

There is still hope - play TA some to back up RA. Play Powe some in the final home game and win it.
I don't have a problem with BBD - sometimes he is quite good. But he can be ineffective against true bigs down low. And that's what I said in the SL about him. He hasn't changed.
I just don't buy the coaching doesn't matter bit - especially on a deep but not especially talented team (after the top four).. Doc needs to play the right guys to give us better matchups.
It doesn't take a genius to see that House might give us more then Cassell. It doesn't take a genius to see that if BBD is having trouble finishing Powe might help more. And it doesn't take a genius to see that TA might be able to beat Wally off the dribble!
Doc really does want to make you hit your head against the wall. I swear..

Oh? really it's "ridiculous"?! It possible to make IN GAME adjustments you know. When someone is having a heck of a time finishing around the basket and costing you mutiple points - you can make a move to the other guy. Especially when both 'centers' have 5 fouls. <g>
It's not any more ridiculous then this board calling out for House over Sam Cassell. The average fan CAN be right.

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but when I was younger Ren and Stimpy was one of the most popular shows for my then-demographic, and like many tweens I watched it faithfully, despite a glacial arrival of new episodes and sketchy quality. Even though I have no regrets about abandoning it, I still have memories of a particular character named "Powdered Toast Man".
Powdered Toast Man had two special powers: the ability to produce toast with a flick of his wrist and -- like many great super heroes -- the wondrous power of flight. However, just before take-off, he'd squat, hold the pose, and release a very audible floating air biscuit.
I'm frightened for my own sanity, but for the life of me, that's all I can think of when watching Perk catch the ball in dunking range. He stops, squats, gathers himself for what seems like an eternity, and suddenly explodes upward (no pun intended).
I can't get the similarity out of my head. I even imagine Perk letting one rip right before he goes up for the jam. And you know what the best part is?
EVERYONE THAT JUST READ THIS WILL THINK THE EXACT SAME THING FROM NOW ON! GWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!
*ahem*
Oh yeah, Powe needs more time. His ability to draw contact may be compromised due to Cleveland's outstanding length down on the blocks, but I'd still put him in there to bang with Wallace/Varejao. In addition to being a rebounding vacuum, he could help with the FTA differential.
I know PJ Brown had a good couple of games, but the reduction of Powe's minutes was something I feared given Rivers' (and most coaches, for that matter) preferential of vets over youngsters.

The reason Powe hasn't been playing is because he is missing defensive assignments and is getting badly out rebounded by Varajeo and hasn't been boxing out.
I don't blame Doc for this one. But I do blame Doc for for not going with House in game 4. I called that before the game. I also blame Doc for not adressing the issue with Ray Allen. There are no plays run for Ray to get him going. Also, when Ray isn't scoring, he isn't doing much of anything else. Why did Doc play him 42 minutes in game 6. I would have tried to go with Tony Allen for about 5-8 minutes in that game.
