LAC and TOR trade idea
Raptor fan here. I know you guys are looking for a PG, so I was wondering if there was any interest for TJ Ford or Jose Calderon. Toronto will likely be moving one. Most fans seem to like Calderon better on Toronto, but at the same time think that TJ is the more talented one. TJ with starter minutes like 35 a game is a 18-10 PG.
Would the Clips be interested in something like:
TJ Ford
Anthony Parker
Jason Kapono
for
Corey Maggette
Brevin Knight
Tim Thomas
You guys can use your high lotto pick on a young SG like Mayo. Parker can start for the first year and let Mayo start in year 2.
Giving you a starting 5
TJ Ford
Anthony Parker/OJ Mayo
Al Thornton
Elton Brand
Chris Kaman

Wow, I actually really like it on the Clippers side. For the Raptors, I would have to say that Maggette has always had the problem of not being as good as his numbers say he is. The Raptors lose a lot of perimeter defense trading away Anthony Parker, and they don't gain any with the guys they get.
I don't think anything like this would end up happening. If the Raptors are to give away Ford and a great shooter and their best perimeter defender in Parker, I think they would be looking for a better player than Corey.

Not a bad trade TGM but I would rather substitute Calderon (S&T) for TJ Ford and add the #6 overall pick along with Maggette, Thomas and Knight on the Clipper side.

raps giv up too much to be honest. Magz isn't as good as advertised. He doesn't the raps' need of perimeter defense all the while taking away our best perimeter defender in AP, our best shooter in Kapono and a good, young PG. Add to that, we have to add tim thomas and his lazy ass to the toronto roster. I'd prefer something like:
TJ Ford
for
Al Thornton
Tim Thomas
This deal I would do

I think the Raptors will make every effort to move Ford and resign Calderon in the offseason, but if the Raptors are unable to move Ford and decide to consider trading Calderon, I'd be willing to remove Tim Thomas from the trade and do the following -
From Clippers
Maggette (S&T)
#6 pick
Knight
From Toronto
Calderon
Parker
Joey Graham or another salary filler

I actually like that deal, quite a lot, for the Raptors.

I'd do it. IMO it's solid all away around. A bit better for the Clips, but even with TJ's health concerns I think it would be more than worth the risk.

Lol, I'm not a "fan" of either of our point guards, but let me just say that despite our thirst for that 20 PPG scorer to compliment Bosh, a deal involving us and the Clippers/Maggette should be CENTERED around T.J Ford or otherwise we lose in this trade.
Why? When making a deal, both parties in order to reach a successful agreement that satisfies both parties, each needs to understand the other parties' needs. With regards to the Clippers and Toronto, it's an easy trade.
T.J Ford + Filler for Corey Maggette: These players both have a history of injuries, plus fits the current needs of the other. Toronto needs a slasher, 20 PPG scorer to compliment Bosh.
Clippers need a TRUE play making PG, who despite his injuries still has room to grow, young and can still improve in T.J... but Corey has pretty much hit his prime, or in his prime. So, even in this T.J for Maggette deal, in the long run, it ultimately benefits the Clippers. I would absolutely be shocked if the Clips rejected a T.J + filler for Corey.
If you are the Clippers:
Asking for Jose, who's still getting better, not known for injuries, got All Star considerations, and who's value is really high right now, and many team are drolling..., yes, "drolling" over him... for Corey Maggette who's history of injuries has been well documented... umm, sorry, that's a NO, NO.

T.J. Ford is a deal killer for the Clippers, the Clippers need a healthy PG particularly with the unknown return status of Shaun Livingston. There is little trade value around the league for Ford and the Raptors may be forced to trade Calderon since Ford is signed for 3 more seasons at 8 to 8.5 million per year.

T.J Ford is not an injury away from retiring... come on, the guy bounced back and finished the season and playoffs well without any problems. Both our guys are starter caliber PG's, and there's only a handful of those, so I believe you Front Office will have a difficult decision denying the TJ for Corey deal. Corey is not exactly reliable either when it comes to injuries, so there's NO way we would have 2 injury prone players in our starting 5. Anyways, that's just my take on it.

I don't think a TJ for Maggette trade will ever happen. In fact, I don't think TJ is getting traded or will even be close to getting traded. As of now, it seems like a foregone conclusion that Calderon will be the Toronto point guard who will be traded, and rightfully so. Calderon's trade value is much higher than Ford's. It would be smart of Toronto to sell high on Jose and see maybe what they can get for Bargnani and their expirings and Toronto could improve themselves greatly.

Ford was born with spinal stenosis and has had two vertebrae fused in his neck. To his credit, Ford has returned to the league successfully and could play another 10 years in the league, who knows.
Maggette missed some time with injuries but doesn't have a pre-existing condition like Ford has so I don't think any NBA GM would think these 2 players were close to equal in injury risk.
Corey played 75 and 70 games over the last 2 seasons, so he has been healthy recently.
