Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Sun May 18, 2008 4:13 am

What do the Orlando Magic Need in order to be Title Contenders next year?

They have Dwight, Rashard, Hedo and Nelson, what else is missing from that team? Who could put them over the top of guys they could possibly get?

More rebounding big men depth and better and bigger guards

they'll reach the next level when dwight becomes a consistent offensive force that can carry an offense.

I agree.. he need to be able to pass out of the double team. It isn't a easy skill to learn, being able to read what the defense is going to do, but he does have lights out shooters and that will assist him later on in his career.

Guard help. Their guard rotation for next year currently stands as
PG: Nelson/nobody
SG: Bogans/Evans/Redick.

Now, teams don't have to be able to start 5 all-stars, and SVG got the most out of a lot of those guys, but that's still a pretty awful backcourt for a team that would like to contend.

Another big man would help too, but Battie may at least provide some productive minutes next year.

A legit point guard. A slasher on the wings. A few more big men who can rebound.

Time, depth up front and a better, consistent scorer off of the bench.

More guard help would be nice. Even though they have 2 forwards that play in the perimeter, they still could use more depth at guard.

They need better guards. And that includes better than Nelson.

They also need a brain transplant in Dwight Howard.

There SG rotation sucks, they need a major upgrade there. Maybe try and go after a player like JuanCN through free agency and have him come in and be an upgrade over what they have.

I think Nelson is better off as a backup PG IMO, I don't see him as a championship level PG. But, you can't fix everything in one off-season and he is a better option to start over whaat they have at SG.

There SF,PF,C spot are pretty much set, and they have a pretty good starting trio at those spots. Could use a backup power player, maybe try and draft JJ Hickson, Jason Thompson, or Darrel Arthur through the draft.
PG: Nelson,Whoever they prefer Carlos Arroyo/Keyon Dooling
SG: JCN, Bogans, Redick/Evans
SF: Turk, Garrity? Bogans?
PF: Lewis, Thompson
C: Howard, Thompson, Foyle

Looking at the Magic, they have absolutely nothing to trade. The cupboard is bare. It's too bad, and is due to some awful mistakes in the lotto.

That said, if I were the Magic GM, I'm throwing the best deal I've got at Miami to get Udonis Haslem. He's the perfect complement to Dwight Howard. This would probably take Jameer Nelson and #22 draft pick.

Next, I make a move for a PG. Ideally, I'd look for a bit of a scorer like Mo Williams. I'd let Hedo facilitate a lot of the offense, with the scoring PG splitting that duty. However, after that Haslem trade, there's nothing left, such that that deal may need to wait. So the best you can do is signing Chris Duhon with the MLE.

I resign Keyon Dooling to be backup PG.

I hope that Tony Battie can play. If not, I trade him for a guy like Dan Gadzuric because I need a backup center on the court.

Rashard Lewis becomes my Super 6th man, sucking up almost all of the backup PF/SF/SG minutes.

Finally, I sign Quinton Ross with the BAE to guard the opponent's best wing player.

8-Man Rotation:

Chris Duhon - Keyon Dooling
Quinton Ross - Rashard Lewis
Hedo Turkoglu - Rashard Lewis
Udonis Haslem - Hedo Turkoglu
Dwight Howard - Tony Battie

Bench:

Bogans
Foyle
Cook
Redick

That team should be able to defend like hell. There would need to be a distinct personality shift from 3 pt. chuckers to half court execution.
Please reconsider your animal consumption.

They're kind of hampered by Rashard Lewis's contract. They need to hope for significant internal growth, effective drafting, and free agents via the MLE.

Flexible Cap Space.

Without that it doesn't matter what your team needs there is no way of obtaining them. Unless your GM is a Magician too.

To be a championship team?

A legitimate guard and a dominant scorer (dwight isn't there yet IMO) would be a good starting point.

I think this is their biggest problem. Although Lewis is a good role player, he isn't a star/superstar player, although he's getting paid like one. 20 mill/year could be going to a player that is a legit 1st option, in turn making their team dangerous because D12 would be a great 2nd option.

They have over 50 million dollars tied up between just three players (Lewis, D12, Nelson) 5 years from now in 2012-2013.

They need a legitimate NBA starting guard on their team.
