D'Antoni's Style Could Help Knicks' Salary Cap?

Post#1 » by kevC » Sun May 18, 2008 6:59 am

Okay, even if D'Antoni can suddenly rejuvenate a player's career (which I highly doubt is true), how does making an 18 million dollar player play like a 6 million dollar player instead of a 3 million dollar player help the salary cap? You're still overpaying everyone.

I think the theory goes something like players will except less to play for Dan Toni then someone else. YAWN. He first has to prove he can win without his star Nash before we can take such a theory seriously.

D'Antoni's system allows players to boost their stats, often making them far better than they actually are. This then gives them artifically high trade values. They can hopefully then be shipped for expiring contracts, which helps the cap.

If it works, it's a great plan. Who knows, maybe an in-shape 23/12 Randolph will attract suitors.

True indeed but if players can significantly increase their productivity it will make them more appealing to other teams and increase the possibility of trading them.

We'll see how Q Rich plays for him. He was good in Phx and then sucked in NYK.

Q shot 38.9% from the field and 35.8% from the arc on wide open shots created by Nash.

People are bashed for shooting higher percentages than that when they're getting double and triple teamed.

This new Wiretap headline cracked me up "D'Antoni Big On Crawford, Robinson, Less On Lee". I mean, sure, why want a guy like Lee that defends, rebounds, takes opportunistic high % shots when you have chuckers like JCraw & Nate?

I have a lot of respect for Donnie Walsh, but what the hell was he thinking? I can only assume he figured he had no chance of getting anything of value for any of these guys so he might as well throw defense out the window, run up some scores and hope these guys stock gets inflated playing in that system.

:noway: :noway:

Lee's a terible defender but well not that's what matters for D'Antoni.
