Conspiracy Theory Time
With the draft lottery being held tomorrow it is thime to come up with the theory as to who will win it and why.

I voted for the Knicks, but when you think about it, whether they're good or not, MSG is gonna be packed most every night regardless, so it would probably be more beneficial for the league for a team like Memphis to win the lottery.

I'm thinking it's gonna be the Bobcats or the Kings. It's always some team outside the box that wins it. For all those people who are convinced that NY is gonna win it, you all are crazy. Think about the teams that have won the lotto recently: Portland, Toronto, Milwaukee, Orlando, Cleveland. There isn't some big conspiracy theory on the part of the large market teams, people solely assume that because NY won the lottery and got Ewing two decades ago, despite the fact there is no real evidence to prove that the lotto was rigged that year, that one little video clip of Stern reaching for the envelope with the supposedly bent corner proves nothing, it's scant evidence at best.

Alright, this is how the draft lottery works.
Stern gives the top picks to franchises that are struggling with either:
1) getting a new stadium deal OR
2) poor attendance OR
3) a fairly new franchise without a rabid fanbase
Last year, Seattle needed a new stadium deal. They got the second pick in Kevin Durant, a phenomenal player who was one of the most hyped up players coming into the draft ever. Getting Durant does not guarantee that Seattle would get the arena deal, but sure as hell does help in trying to get one. Seattle doesn't want to lose the next George Gervin.
Portland was having all kinds of problems with their arena deal and fanbase. Who do they get? Greg Oden.
Plus, Stern likes to put great big men in small markets. Tim Duncan in San Antonio, Shaq in Orlando, Dwight Howard in Orlando, and Greg Oden in Portland. The only LEGIT big man he put in a big market since Ewing was Yao Ming and that was because the Chinese demanded that Ming be in a major market and so Stern put Ming in the third largest market in the US.
Why does Stern put GREAT BIG MEN in small markets? I don't know, maybe they provided stability for teams and harder to market and tend to have trouble with the media. As we all know, outside of Shaq and Dwight Howard, most big men are quiet and are hard to market.
With all that said, since there are no great big men in this draft, this is how the draft lotto is going to go down.
Memphis and Minny are going to be in the top three picks of this lotto. The third I don't know yet.

Memphis will get the first pick. As a completion of the Gasol trade and as a thank you from Stern.
Now, Stern would obviously prefer the knick to get number 1 but that would be too suspicious. So, the Grizzlies promised to draft Beasley (they already have Conley at PG) and the knick will have the 2nd pick and still get Rose. Miami will get number 3.

Tim Duncan San Antonio
Dwight Howard Orlando
Lebron James Cleveland
Greg Oden Portland
Kevin Durant Seattle
Carmelo Anthony Denver
Chris Paul New Orleans
Deron Williams Utah
Starting to see a trend here or what? And the put the THREE BIGGEST players to come into the draft in the past 10 years in small markets. What it is.
