Frantik had the best point. if you asked kobe if anything short of winning a title would be a success. He'd tell you no.

Expectations have changed from the start of the season. This is a championship caliber team that finished #1 in an incredibly tough western conference. They have a true Big 3 in Gasol, Odom, KB24 and some really solid role players.

The season is not a success yet.

the season has been successful, considering all we've went through, it is a great accomplishment to get this far

and i'm sorry but i just don't buy it that some people still were thinking championship before the season with the kobe ordeal or when bynum got hurt

The events of last summer seem so distant now, from being on the verge of a team trading away its superstar, to the WCF, its all good, but, the Finals is a little bit of a better destination for this team. All things considered, its great though, but I do miss watching Bynum play, feels like that never happened either. 8 MORE WINS BABY.

Success? Wait Just A Minute There Laker Fans...

Post#25 » by RJM » Mon May 19, 2008 5:01 pm

Now I'm as happy (and relieved) to be in the Western Conference Finals as the next guy, but we have to remember that we are fans of the winningest team in NBA History. In my opinion, I believe that with the talent we have on this roster, we can win the Championship. If you walk up to Kobe Bryant and ask him if the season was a success, you can guarantee that he will respond like so:

"Not unless we win the Championship baby. Not until then."

IMO we should take on the mentality of our Leader Kobe Bryant. We need to remember that we've won NBA Championships (three, actually) in this decade, so why settle for a mere Western Conference Finals berth? I appreciate and join in the celebrations for our achievements SO FAR, but I don't think this season was a success just yet. Maybe for a team like the Hornets, but not for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Our standards are higher here in Tinseltown. Ask any Former Laker and they'll tell you that we don't hang Division Championship Banners in Staples Center.

See those? Those are NBA Titles. In other words, that's all thats really recognized here in Lakerland. Let's calm down for a bit and open our eyes somewhat. Go Lakers!

Who doesn't want a championship? I think we all want them to go all the way. Isn't that a given? Of course Kobe wants to go all the way, that's all he plays for. As a fan, that's all I can ever hope for. I have no doubt that they can win it all this year. The defense is looking better by the game, and so, they're finally a legit contender.

However, let's not be ignorant and polarizing about this, if they should not win it all this year, we should embrace the great strides that were made this year. Yes, some of us think that this year already is a success. But that doesn't mean that we're OK with the team laying down to die. I'd crack the whip and everything else to force my will on them to win it all if I were the coach. But let's call a spade a spade

Good point Mr. E.

PS - I did read before I posted. I just felt a "rebuttal" of sorts merited its own thread. Apparently you saw differently. No worries broha, its all good. Go Lakers! :D
