Nets have a shot at Carmelo
Story on Realgm wiretap.
IF this happens would the Nets become contenders considering they would be trading their lotto pick, RJ, Williams and KVH's contract for Melo and Camby??

Well coming from an owner's perspective, Kroenke's paying the third highest luxury tax in the league and his team got the 8th seed. You've got Golden State right there behind them and a huge upcoming team in Portland. Can it really get any better for the Nuggets? With how weak the East still is, Denver's probably not going to get lower than a 14th overall pick as most of those East teams will be taking those higher spots in the lottery.
Now I don't agree that trading Melo is the real goto move, but should he trade Melo AND Camby, AI probably will opt out. That's three of four of their highest contracts. (Plus there's also the small possibility Denver could just use the Allan Houston rule on AI to get under the luxury tax and purposely suck.
Then again, as a Nets fan, we'll be more than happy to take Melo and Camby off their shoulders.

And to summarize most of my day's posts on this trade...
How lucky would Keith Van Horn be if this trade falls through? He gets to be close to home in Denver and get paid there. Does he live in Denver? Nevertheless, he's still getting paid.

Melo has some problems, but that's just not enough
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:
"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

The Nets getting a top-3 pick is highly unlikely. They had the NBA's 10th worst record. I believe that gives them something like a 2% chance of getting the #1 pick and maybe a 10% chance at a top-3 pick.

Wouldn't that explain the "Nets unlikely to get Melo" wiretap a few days ago?

You'd have to assume Carmelo Anthony would be playing with heart and motivation if he was given new scenery, especially in the Eastern Conference. Also, you'd have to assume Vince Carter would be motivated, as he has shown when his team has the chance to win, and when he's been put in new scenery. A combination of a motivated Anthony and Carter is enough to scare teams. The Nets also have a good PG, unlike the Nuggets with Anthony Carter.
